Last day of our trip to Trout Lake. We moved camp to the east end of the lake to get away from the stag party. Needed some sleep! And it was closer for us to start the day on our last run.

We took a ride up Healy creek which many people had recommended, and we werent' disapointed! Definitely a must-do if anyone is down this way, and can be accessed 95% of the way even with a fullsize. Even the last bit to the glacier could probably be done in a Zuki. The ride starts up a logging road for several km, pretty boring, then gets good when it heads up a deactivated trail containing lots of switchbacks typical of old mining roads in this area. The best part was riding through a small draw and coming out to see a vertical rock wall that must be about 2000' high! The pics don't do it justice, it's something that should be experienced in person! After passing a mine, the trail gets steep and loose, lots of throttle here, and comes out beside a glacier. Eventually we got to the end of the road, stopping just shy of 8000' in elevation! First time I've had my quad up to 7954'!

Even in the middle of nowhere we got held up for road construction. [16] The highway was washed out in May when we had all the flooding, guess they have been rebuilding it since then.

Didn't even leave the trucks when we had our first flop. The hole Wayne's Bomb is in looked like a little pile of grass to me. It was pretty comical how went over as he rode in, it was in slow motion! [15]

Our first view once we hit the saddle at the ridge.

26186

The lower adit of the Wagner mine. Too much water in there for us to explore.
26187

26188

Here the trail got a bit steeper and loose, plenty of throttle and it was no problem! At least here we didn't have to worry about a vertical drop off the side of the trail like the Triune on the first day!
26189

Wanted to get on the glacier to ride around, but not really any way of getting the quads on it.
26190

The upper adit of the Wagner. Wandered in about 300'.

Great views from 8000', could see Mohican mountain and the Badshot range we tried to get to on Friday.
26199

While we were sitting here, one quad after another kept arriving. And we thought we were in the middle of nowhere!

Ryan just couldn't resist sliding down the glacier! Got it on vid too!

Another view of top of Healy creek.
26207

Had to check out all the trails we saw up here, and found another mine, the Abbot, still had some equipment left behind.

A loader used to scoop the ore from the end of the tunnel into an ore cart.

26209

Electric mule used to pull the ore cart out of the mine.

Wayne playing on the snow. It was a blast having a snowball fight at the end of August! Only took about 50 tries before I hit Ryan's quad below us! :D

Ryan said the snowballs were motoring pretty quick by the time they got down to them! Helped that Wayne and I were about 100' above them! [15] [15] [15]

Yup, these mines were worked 'til late '80s. The trails have deteriorated quite a bit in the last 15 years or so, but someone was recently doing maintenance on the switchbacks to the top. There was a large skid/trailer sitting on the side of the trail at the bottom, so I figure the ore was transported from the mine by a cat in the winter, and truck in summer.

This was a short day, only 7 hours on the quads! :D The previous 3 days were anywhere from 8 to over 11 hours! Had to make the most of the holidays, we only come up here once a year!
