Day 2 woke up to clear skies, knew it was going to be a great day!

We headed back up the Lardeau river to explore the Badshot/Mohican range but were disapointed with washed out roads and creeks running a little too fast to risk crossing. We did find a couple of nice quad trails, but they too ended before arriving at anything really interesting.

Shot of Mohican mountain
26010

26011

Badshot mountain. Could see a road swithbacking up through the talus at the bottom of the vertical wall. Unfortunately the creek we had to cross was moving a little to fast for my liking!
26012

Another big glacier
26013

When they deactivate a road, they really want to keep you out!
26014

Getting closer to Badshot mtn
26015

Speedy was all ready to cross the creek. If the water was clear enough to see the bottom, it might not have been too bad.
26016
26017

This was a nice trail heading up Ferguson Creek trying to get to the ghost town of Circle City. Unfortunately a slide just past this point cut us off.
26018

26022
26023
26024

We backtracked to Trout Lake and headed east to find the trail up to Silvercup Ridge.
26025
26026

Got right up on the alpine and we were looking down on the Silvercup Mine that we had been to the morning of the first day.

26034
26035

We walked along the ridge to a point where it narrowed and saw this hole which turned out to be a crack where the ridge was seperating!
26030

The local forest fires made for a spectacular sunset Friday evening!
26036
26037

View of camp on Day 3 (Saturday). After being rudely awoken at about 1:00AM by a stag party up the beach everyone was a little tired in the morning! They did catch a nice 15lb Rainbow in the lake though!
26038

The start of the day 3 and we already had over 200km on the quads!
26039

We headed back up Silvercup Ridge to check out the remainder of the trails that we saw just before dark on Friday night. Not a single fish in any of these alpine lakes. At over 6000' in elevation, it gets a little too cold even for them!
26040
26041
26042
26043

After seeing lots of bear scat the last couple of days, we finally saw some tracks. This Grizz track was just 100' away from tracks left from a sow black and her cub(s).
26044

26045

Driving back down to the main road we started east to find another route up to the ridge. I came around a corner doing about 50km/h and a grouse standing on the edge of the road waited 'til I was about 5' in front of him before deciding to fly straight in front of my quad! [15] I've never seen a bird explode like that! [15] Nothing but feathers behind me. :D
26047

He was doing the funky chicken, so I turned around to put him out of his misery. Too bad he didn't do this on the way back to camp! Could of roasted him over the fire!
26046

Pic of the Foggy Day mine area, still on the Silvercup ridge.
26048
26049

A little lake at the Alice workings, again no sign of fish.
26050
26051

Another lake near the Foggy day mine
26052
26053

It was pretty cool finding the memorial site of a woman who lived in Trout lake most of her life and owned the Windsor hotel.
26057
She died in 1955 at the age of 101! She also was a prospector and rode up to her mines on horseback well into her 80's! Tough old gal she was!
26054
One of her cabins she stayed at while prospecting.
26055

View of Trout lake and our campsite at the far end.
26056

Local gas station with old gravity feed pumps that still operate!

I have a lot more pics that Speedy sent me, will have to upload them tomorrow.

Yah, it was a nice fish! Trout lake is south of Revelstoke between the upper Arrow lake and the Kootenay lake.

John, wish you could have made it! You and Steven would have had a blast. And yes, Wayne did bring the fire in a can! Cup of gas and instant fire, no kindling needed! :D

Here are a few more pics from Speedy's camera.

Where abouts are they planning to log? We saw some trucks coming out of the Lardeau River, north/west of the Heli-Ski lodge. Will have to plan a sled trip up there this winter. [36]

as far i know there three place that are getting worked on

1. up close by circle city , we were up there on the ferguson side last year
2. triune area
3. and camborne area ( not sure which side )

[cheers]

circle city would be my choice love to see that trial get cleaned up. maybe have a better shot of getting up and get a work bee going :)

We tried to get to Circle City, the trail ended at a slide/sluff that needed work. Someone had done lots of work up to that point. We were on the east side of Ferguson Creek. We only got as far as Cascading creek. Long ways off!

A friend was up past Camborne on the Aug long, said the trail has been opened up again long ways up Mohawk creek, apparently going right to the top for mining/exploratory work. Also, claims they will be opening Teddy Glacier up right to the top. :( Was an awesome trail last year as it is.

Can't see them going up Triune creek, it's one big avalanche slope from bottom to top! Probably going to log the bottom along the Lardeau river.

well as long as the old post is dredged up, In my recent research circle city never actually existed. It was planned out and lots were for sale but noone would buy them so the "developer" gave up

what is interesting tho is that further on from circle city up into the bush, there was another town called ten mile city which actually had a general store and a hotel and was abandoned in i think 1904 when noone wanted to live there. That is all i could find out tho.

I need a life[16]

Lawrence, did you see any sledders up the Triune valley (to the Triune mine)? You guys were on the north side of Silvercup ridge, weren't you? That valley up to Triune mountain looked like a highmarkers dream, wide open with very little trees. Would have to wait 'til the slides came down though, they would be big up there.

yep thats where we were. there was a block with lots strips taken out 10 years ago they blew over . we went in to clean it up. my boss tells me that we crossed over a covert then a bridge at 18 km board on the left of the road is the trail to the triune mine rd . we had lots sleders taking up snow boarders they were in elment there.

i was going up this weekend but my wife ( baby ) thought it would be a good idea to come out today.:dontknow: whooo hoooo 7pds 6 onuces <boy>[52]
