View Full Version : Broken Starter

Took out my Starter to test it and all it does when the ignition is turned to start is the spindle pops out but doesn't turn at all. What the hell has gone wrong with my starter? Is it finished? Rebuildable?

[stupid] Yup the contacts are toast, dirt cheap to get new ones, it'll cost you maybe $5 for new copper contacts at Lordco

Kay, thanks for the tip...I'm an electrician so I'm guessing the contacts shouldn't be so hard for me to fix? Didn't think that the contacts would cause the thing to stop spinning, I thought it would either work or it wouldn't, y'know?

Ordered new ones from Lordco, they gave me the "We JUST sold the last set" speech.. funny stuff. I'll take the starter apart tonight and get the thing ready for the shiny new copper. Thanks guys!

I just picked up my new contacts tonight but I'll put them in tomorrow. I'm gonna take a break from my "other" full time job as a mechanic tonight. I actually have 2 starters, one that when plugged in does nothing at all and the other's armature pops out but doesn't pass the current to the motor. Any ideas on what's wrong with the one that does nothing? I'm just gonna clean it up and keep it as a spare anyway! :)
