I dont know if its a ujoint or my d-shaft or what but when i go from a stop to a roll i feel a thud and play before i start moving.. any hints? like a clunk then it grabs.. don't hear it after that only from a dead stop to a roll.

Uh, if when it's in gear it won't turn, and the joints don't wiggle, it's good.

Besides, everyone knows that you can only tell a ujoint needs replacing when it grenades.

Put it on a flat surface and have one buddy roll it back and forth while you lay under it. try putting it on jack stands and wiggle every thing around and see whats loose. You seem to wheel that jeep a lot maybe its time for a full a maintenance day.

best way to check u joints is on a hoist or something. too hard to properly check them when there is any resistance on them.

Who taught you to check U joints. A u joint unless it breaks do to a structural flaw or to much power will get play in it before it goes.

Could be the diff. Spider gears with missing teeth or the crosspin can pound/wear its hole into a slot. I've both happen before... like a 1/4 turn slop in the driveshaft before anything happens at the tires. You've been warned.[32]
