alright heres the question i have a 90 4l auto with a 242 tranfer case
now on the poker run i was told i should put a 231 in it is this a better transfer case and if you know what is the difference in them --- stronger ??? lower geared ?? and it should fit as long as its out of an auto right?

thx for any input[cheers] [cheers]

The 231 and the 242 aren't a whole lot different in strength the 231 is a little stronger in that it has less parts in it (no viscous coupling, the differential part of the 242) low range ratio is the same. The 242 has a few common problems with them as I told you on the trail at the poker run the 231 very rarely causes problems. As far as the 231 you need for the swap is 90 and prior XJ 4.0 auto, should be a 21 spline long input the tcase
