i had my 89 f250 4x4 ou on the weekend and once i hit the trail, i noticed the front end was cluncking a bit. It sounded like it was coming form the driverside more so.....It only happens when im going slower over bumps or rocks......I was thingking that maby one of my TTB arms is making the noise. I just had my ball-joints, and wheelbarrings done. Once i hit the pavement it stoped and the truck rides real nice and everything, noting feels loose... its just the noise was bad enought to make me not wana wheel it once i got to camp.....

just woundering if anyone had any ideas or tips???

On a TTB Ford, the first think to check is the radius arm bushings...

Eh, you said TTB so I went with that. Forgot about the setup that makes the other TTB setups look good :D

I'd check for worn pivot bushings then. May not be too apparent, though, unless you REALLY check them over. Next check would be balljoints...

Ya the leaf sprung set up sure does suck....and ya id like to check the pivot bushings but i doubt ill have much luck with trying to make something move, oh well ill do some investigating

If you jack it up by the frame to unload the springs, you MIGHT be able to use a floorjack under the beam while pulling/prying at the pivot bushings to find play. I've never really looked at a leafsprung TTB so I'm just guessing (well, nobody else has spoken up, I apparently need a postcount increase to "be somebody" here, and I don't feel like being a totally useless and annoying post whore... ).
But I never did understand how a leafspring is supposed to flex when it has to twist as the pivot travels (???)

ya ill give that a try, thanks, and ya it doenst flex.......well it does a bit but ya, the main TTB arms or beams or what ever you wana call them look to be the same design as the coil set ups on the smaller trucks....and when it does flex it cant be good for it. they also mount the shackle on the front and use a negative arch spring even though mine been tweeked just a tad to sit up a bit to level the truck......

Try the u joint at the pumpkin. Also right beside it is a slip joint that likes to wear out and clunk around. I'm assuming that you've already checked the outer ujoints. As far as how that suspension works, why wouldn't it?? Leafs have to twist everyday. that's what flex is, you know, one tire relatively different in poition from the frame as to the tire on the other side.

ya the outer U joints been replaced when the ball joints and barings were done, the only thing about the flex is that wouldnt the beams have to move, either forward or back when the spring flexes???? but i guess thats what the shackle is for but??? i dono, its on the truck, it hasnt given me any real problems yet, so im happy

i only worry when mine stops making noises, did you check for walkers or canes wedged in the front end??? might have fallen out wile 4xin thats why the noise stopped?

possibly tie rod ends? I know mine were worn and only clunked when wheelin for a while. then started clunking on the road so I figured get em fixed before everything fly apart

check to see if your front shackles are hitting the frame. My F350 had that problem, put new ones in & no more noise & 3/4" more lift.

Bought mine at the Ford dealer, cheaper than the after market shit at Lordco.
