i got a new baring to..so i gotta pull drive shaft and then go to town?

Always broke
08-03-2006, 09:05 PM
you don't have to pull the drive shaft for an axle seal but you will have to if it's a pinion seal you will have to [cheers]

remove drums remove rear diff cover push desired side axle in remoce C-clip from inside of carrier , pull one side axle out remove seal and bearing check axle for wear , do process in reverse ( If it's a posi don't forget posi lube) also don't pull out both axles at the same time because the carrier may fall out and the it will have to be set up again (don't do that) RTV on the diff cover to re install[cheers] hope the helps

you start with removing the driveshaft
then brake line from axle to frame
then parking brake cables
then U bolts
then roll the POS 8.8 from under the truck and go get a full floating axle to stuff under it

is that a trashlok?
can you pull the crosspin?
do you have a shop manual?

sj-x 500
08-21-2006, 11:53 PM
you have to pull out the cross pin that holds the spiders in place, and spin the spiders out, then you can pry the axle in a lil, pull the lil c clip, then pull the axle out... i think...

boyzen
08-22-2006, 06:14 AM
yep there is either a roll pin or a small bolt holding the cross pin in take that out and the cross pin will tap out .don't roll the spiders out with the trac lock its not fun to put back.then push the axle in so you can pull the clip out thats it ! I dont remember if the seal and bearing are pressed on the axle shaft or in the axle tube if they are pressed bring them to the shop I can press it off for ya.

the seal is in the housing

In The Zone

just remove the centre pin if u put the tranny in neutral rotate the tires till u see the bolt for the cross shaft remove it w/8mm 12 point wrench or equivalant
tap the centre pin out with a brass drift part way rotate the exposed section of pin to the open part of the carrier then insert bolt backin the pin and use it to pull the pin all the way out...

do not roatae now as ur spiders will walk out..

push axle in towards centre of diff remove c-clip then push axle out

if u are real good u can catch the seal with the end of the axle and remove em at the same time

real easy process

be sure to clean the seal and bearing area on the axle prior to reassembly

should take no more then 15 minutes a side u are doing both right?

Just how many people do you think I can feed??!! When I said I'd bring burgers I meant for our two families, not an entire pit crew. Don't have that many burgers left over from last weekend
