Add some info and people might be able to help !

What motor the 22r?

Does it have a fan clutch ?

Is the rad plugged full of mud?

Have you flushed the rad out?

have you changed the thermostat or tried runnin it without one temporarily?

Whats the water to antifreeze level at ---Too much antifreeze isnt good as well and not enoug is bad as well

What the rad caps condition?--Water under pressure boils at a different temp then not under pressure -- a week rad cap can cause problems and no overflow can as well

So what have you tried so far?

Im gonna try flushing the rad tomorrow. it is a 22r yes and it sits just into the red on the gauge. If the flush doesnt help I will change the thermostat and if that doesnt help I might get an electric fan. Any other pointers? Bigger rad maybe?

Your stock rad should have no problem !

Flush it .. check thermostat ,, make sure fins are clear of debri ,,

Does it have a clutch fan ? If they are defective it will idle at temp for ever but as soon as you drive it down the highway the temp goes up !

The electric fan may only help to delay solvin a problem --- Is the 22r fuel injected? If its not even timing can cause and engine to overheat !I cant remember if its too advanced or to retarded it will cause heating problems !

make sure the front of the rad is clean first, a blocked rad will not flow air an you can flush for 100 years with no improvemant.

when is it overheating idle or highway?

The rad leaks so I need a new one. And the reason it was overheating is because there wasnt enough coolant in the rad. As for the questions, the clutch fan seems to be just fine and its carbed. I just got the truck and other than this its mint. only 3000kms on the motor!

not enough coolant in the rad

wow[16]

youd figure you would check that before you go asking questions[16]

Ok --rad leak means it cant build up pressure !

Low on coolant ---not good

Clutch fan is very hard to tell if its workin properly as they do have slipage in them

Being carbed means it could be a timmin thing !

So change your rad first then see what happens !

Find out if 84-89 or so rads bolt in the older trucks,if so turbo trucks of those years have 3 core.

hey Flipper

Why replace a rad with a 15 year old one ?

For the under 200 buck price you should be able to get a new rad !

If what you were suggestin was replacing it with a new one that fits and is a three core --then HELL YA ! Good call !

yup, it'll fit, as does the rad out of a 88-95 3.0L v6

both the turbo and v6 are 3 core rads and cool very well. Would be a good upgrade to any 22r/e

that wopuld just be a bandaid fix in his case. Stock clutch fan should be able to cool better than any electric fan if it & and the rest of the system is working properly
