So I've read that the 8.25 is stronger than the D35.. so I grabbed that at the pickapart today and got rid of my exploded 35..
How much stronger is this axle..
same spline count, .010" smaller diameter shaft
beefier housing, bigger ring gear..

The 8.25 for the XJ is a little stronger than the D35 not as strong as the 44 they make an 8.25 with larger axle shafts but not for the XJ the biggest draw back for the XJ 8.25 is the lack of availabilty of parts very few ratios for it and hardly any lockers.

Uh, there's an 8.25 with 29 spline (I guess) shafts in 94 and newer XJs or some BS. They're bigger than the earlier ones, is what I'm getting at.
But, the older 8.25s are a waste of time.
Wait, the new ones are too.
There's a LOT of better axles out there as long as you're willing to weld spring perches.

I'm thinking Lincoln Versailles 9", or an exploder/ranger 8.8". (Same bolt pattern too).

yeah I needed a direct bolt in axle so I could get to work the next day so I went with the 8.25..
considering its $100 any axle at the pickapart and I have the contents of a fabrication shop at my disposal I am going to go for an 8.8 for peace of mind..
have d35 shafts for sale if anyone needs trail spares..
