i betcha you dont have it all done in a week...

do you have to rear gear? are you buying a kit or making one yourself? what are you going to do about steering? h9gh steer arms? new draglink and tierod? what about a front d shaft? or shock mounts? what springs are you going to use? going ot rebuild the front diff(what diff are you using)? what about wheels and tires? what pitman arm are yah going to use?

theres more to it than i think you think. [cheers]

My build starts wednesday morning so give me till the following wednesday and i bet it will be done.I will let you see what i used after it is done.Dan brought up a good point about too many chefs in the kitchen (too many opinions) so for my sanity it will remain a secret. But i am cheating a little.I am too lazy to do it myself so it is getting done for me.To repair my front end was $2500 just to have the same old IFS and it would probly be dead again in a year or so with the lift i have so for a few bucks extra i am doing the SAS.We were going to use toy diffs but they were a little too narrow so we are putting in chevrolet junk and i think it will outlast outwit and outplay what it came stock with. But i may have to get Dan to build me some of those sweet flares he has on the B2 [f]

06-29-2006, 10:13 AM
excuse me? can't be done in a week?

can't remember who... it was ira or grant that did it in a day on a runner.

if you get your ass in gear, it can be done. so long as you have the funds to support it, and all the parts waiting for you, or at least the material to make the peices. if you have the front axle cleaned, painted etc, with mounts welded on and ready to go. then all you have to worry about is the brakes, steering, rims, driveshaft, frame mounts, shackles or link placement and therefore materials and joints.

Explorer guy418
06-29-2006, 01:47 PM
yeah that blue runner was done in 1 day i was fckin amazed at that. just have to get out thrr and git r dunn no fuckin around.

I have the funds the parts are bought and i have 2 qualified guys in a fab shop doing it.It looks as if they have cleared the week so its just them and my rig.I dont see the problem but if it takes longer so be it.i gots another truck.

A couple years ago I had a guy come from the coast drivin a toy with indy front and drove back with a solid axle. Doing that swap in a weekend isn't a problem. The front end in mine was out in a couple hours, with the new setup ready to go. Actuall time was probably 7-8 hours. All I have left to do for that part of the swap now is the rear mounts. When I find my dock for our camera I'll try and post some pics.

you should do it yourself... or at least most of it. Yah you shoudl get help with the big fab, but the rest you should do yourself. OF course it can be done in a week if your paying a shop that can work on it all day long cash to do it. Thats not what i was saying. i wanted to see YOU finish it all in a week...

you say that like wrenchng is a chore. I have a job... a great one at that. I ENJOY wrenching and my truck is a hobby of mine. Half the fun of it is building it and making it better. what happends when u break something... you have to drag it all the way back to theshop that built it to get it fixed? id rather do it myself...

plus i take a great deal of pride i my truck, and knowing and being able to tell people i did it myself with some help from a few friends... something about being able to say that is cool

plus now i can get a build not bought sticker for it... and make fun of both Reece and You for buying instead of building[f][f][9]

I am out of money for now so it will be getting gears later.Cant go bigger with the tires till the gears are in.It isnt really that big.bout 8 inches total.Front and rear bumpers and rock sliders, time permitting of course. And the tires on it are 33" tsl radials,I have some 38 tsl's but dont want to put them on(too big).I think they will be fine when its all said and done.Oh and the gears in it right now are 4:10's.I will need probly 5:29's down the road.

No problem i apprcieate that. That is where the work got done. They are a great shop the SAS has been done for a bit now but we still need to get the rear bumper, rocksliders and skid plate finished.I needed to get some miles on it this week before my road trip next week.
I also bought a tracker off them and it goes in for a lift there as well, when it is done i pick it up and leave the pooper for a week or so till it is completed. Its a real wicked schedule but its all gooder.

I should have taken them when I had a chance. As I said earlier it was sitting with the drivers wheel easly parked on top of a concrete highway divider. Looks a odd with the 31's? ( i think) on it but with the big rubber it is going to be awesome.[36] [36] [36]

Looks good Mike. Let me know what gear ratio you want and I'll find out my cost is. I may even come down and do the install for ya for some beer! I could probable set you up with a Detroit rear and say a ARB or Eaton E locker. If you are looking for a 6 bolt rim with a small amount of back space, try and find your self some stock rims from say a IFS Chevy or GMC. You'll have to make sure that if you change your rims that it doesn't cause any rubbing or turning issues. I would think that with the amount of flex your are getting that when you put on some 38's even with the off set you have know they might rub.

It came to me last night that if we lengthen your front solit mounted spring shackle and lenthen your rear pivoting shackle your steering should clear. also you'll get a couple more inches of lift and flex. then the crossover steering can still be applied at your leisure.

In The Zone
01-21-2007, 01:33 PM
if u lengthen the front spring mounts as in drop them it will be enough leave the rear shackles ..... unless caster is going to be a issue...
