well i plan on lifting my explorer and putting tires on it but i want to keep it as street legal as possible. i was wondering where i would be able to find out all the different restrictions for off road vehicles. Like how far i can have my tires stick out, how high it can be, etc

tires actually cant even stick out a cm, but most cops wont make a big deal about it, i got the hu7ge lecture from a cop, bumper height is 27" correct me if i am wrong

so if i wanted to lift it so it was higher than 27" at the bumper could i just move the bumper down? and is it measured to the lowest part of the bumper? and is it just the tread that cant stick out at all or can no part of the tire stick out past the fenders?

i heard that the tire can stick out 1.5 inches outside the fender

[stupid] I had a dot cop tell me the same when he did a quick walk round my truck and if ya goit more than 17 inches unrestricted height behind your rear tires you need mudflaps as well. I was told all this in the past couple months when pulled over.
And he told me the rest looked ok[32]

29.5" bumper height and 58" headlight height, unless your plannin on lifting that explorer 16" dotn worry about it......just burn it and get a chev

damn... too bad this was an old thread, I was going to suggest doing all the work you wanted to and then go do burn outs in the parking lot of the local cop shop, they'd tell you everything that wasn't up to DOT standards! :D

I was pulled over tonight and was given an inspection notice. On the ticket it says that I have to get my Tires, Suspension, Steering, and brakes approved by an inspection facility. How do we deal with this? What are the typical problems that I need to worry about?

Thx!
