I do believe the term wide block came from dodges 318. Early 318s where wide, and completely different looking from the small blocks.Somewhere about 1968 the 318 became the same outside dimensions as the 273, 318, 340, and 360.

Also "raised block" is a mopar only term refering to the raised deck hieght on 413,426,440 dodge big block engines, "B/RB"......383,400 dodge are "B" engines, which are still considered a big block engine with a 3/8 shorter deck hieght
