Hey, I've torn apart a rear diff out of a Tracker, cause the old guy snapped the axel. I need help to see if I set the gears in right. I put new bearings in it, but I'm not sure if it's lined up properly. If someone could look at it before I put it back in, would be appreciated. I'll swing by your place with it. Thanks

if you didnt take the carried apart then you shouldnt have to change much. SHould just go together. Make sure there meshing fine and not binding. Paint them and check that the wear pattern is ok. You can do it[cheers]

If you didn't have the pinion out all you need is to set the backlash (the play between pinion and the ring gear ) it should be about 8 to 10 thou ( should just be able to feel the play ) if you are worried about it you can bring it by my place I will check er for ya.

I think the only thing you should have to check/set is the backlash.

On pretty much all diffs you can get away with anywhere from 5 to 15 thou depends on the ratio and application, real low gear ratios and severe load service diffs I like to run a little loose for the heat build up
