Any dSLR would be a good choice if you want to get serious.

I think Liz has a canon rebel?

noyce pics liz [36]

macro's are fun to mess around with. i dont have any true macro lenses [35] but ive got extension tubes, which are almost as good but not quite. most P&S these days esp the better ones with longer focal range have macro capabilities too...

its cool though to see the world up close & personal

not to plug my own shit, but i use a canon S2 IS. it has a 0mm macro, which means it will focus on things actually touching the lens. overall an impressive cam for the money.
i would love to have a SLR, but they are just too big for travelling with. im really impressed with it, its sort of a wannabe slr.
i also have a S200 which is a 5 year old 2MP canon. i have some amazing shots i have taken with it too. it just takes some fidling and patence, sometiimes 50 shots to get that one keeper.
heres a couple more[cheers]

I dont knock the P&S cams , there just as good , there just no manual over rides , and your usually stuck with one lens range. I usually take about 10 pics or more before I find one I really like .

Its all in the user anyways

heres a P&S from my old 2mp kodak

I've taken some stellar pics with a P&S and I really like them for ease-of-use, but i have a serious fascination with macro, and having a camera that works well for that would make my life complete. I just bought a Fuji S 5200 and for reg pics it's great, but the macro goes to 10 mm? at telescopic and 30? at wide? maybe i have them back to front, but regardless, I can't get very close to the object without it being blurry... so what's the suggestion? I'm in a position to buy a camera for under a grand, and would really love the input. (can still take the fuji back as it was a costco purchase :D) but for point and shoots (the fuji will still allow a wide-angle to be added which i liked about it, comparitively to the kodak of similar qualities that i looked at) and they were really reasonably priced at $370.

are there any manual focus settings for the macro?

I know for my canon A95 I can manually focus it a lot closer than if I'm in auto mode and just turn on macro

Mack

dunno how to check that... should probably read the manual... :D

for true 1-1 or higher magnification u will need a Dslr or 35mm camera and a dedicated macro lens.
so theres Canon
Nikon
pentax
Canon has some great macro lens like the 100(i use) ,150L, 180L(probley the best ) ,50, I think theres others too ...a 60 efs (new)

Like I said canon will be the cheapest an easiest to get good len's for .

then u can add extension tubes, multiplyers an filters to get hella close macro

Iam stickin with my rebel an buying good glass for now.
