so ive been noticing.. eveer since i bought my jeep when its cold and i start it u hear the engine knock like a couple times for maybe 1-2 seconds right after its started then goes away.. any ideas what it may be.. the idle is really rough.. it definitley needs a tune up and oil change but.. The dealership said it was rebuilt and has 100k on rebuilt engine which i probally wave a BS flag but anyho.. Any idea of how i can find out if its causing more damage than good? or any fixes or anyting.. Cheers

Clean the IAC, check/adjust the TPS, clean the oil out of the air filter, clean the TB, clean the injectors, check the vacuum lines for rot,

say screw it and convert to propane.

I'm not sure about Jeeps, but i know toyota sells an oil filter with an anti drain back valve which stops the oil from draining out of the filter when the engine is off so you have full oil pressure right away on startup.

Yeah I notice my engine (360) is not getting oil for the first 1-2 seconds on cold start ups. Not sure what is the cure.

Iím sure Mikey the jeep god could tell us

sounds like crappy oil pressure. Get a new pump, clean the pickup, etc etc.

more than likely rod bearings. don,t worry about it mine,s been doing that for the last 3 years. now i got 470,000km on it and i still drive her like i stole her. damn near all 4.0s make that noise as they get older. by the way changing oil regularly helps with this problem.

oil filter with an anti drain back valve will help a ton. I believe WIX filters have them as do a couple others.
