well i just got my 1.6 16v running in the sj, and i don't think it's the right set up for me in this rig. too much lift, not enough rear drive shaft.. it got shit kicked on the weekend, toy cv that lasted all of 3 hours before dieing and taking the pin yoke with it. problem is that the t-case is too far back, but if i move it closer to the tranny, i gotta cut 3 driveshafts... front and rear, plus the t-case input shaft. I'd rather put in my 3 speed auto, but then the t-case doesn't have the same gearing... then i'd need more power to run the 35's. so i'd need a new engine...

well if i were to run a 4.3, i could run a common th350 and toy case, much stronger then what i have. i could keep my 5.29 diffs or trade to a more common 4.10 or maybe 4.56 and still have the jam for my 35's. or even a larger tire.

so... do i just skip the middle step and just go right for the 4.3, th350, toy case? or do i try to make the suzuki 16v, 5 speed, 4.16 t-case, drive train work?

Considered diesel yet? you can tune a VW motor pretty well and get tons of power. Not to mention fuel milage. Just a thought.

my buddy runs a 16valve and 37 boggers no prob runs circls around my toy motor I have contemplated this swap (4.3)manny a time and it comes down to weight for me its just such a big heavy motor and im trying to keep my dual toy trannies godzuka ran a 4.3 in his old zuke and it did very well

If for no other reason, do just because, after all it's only time and money.

i have 2 years into this thing, and have driven it a total of 8 hours. and have sunk more then enough to buy a fleet of samurais to fund it. i was just kinda let down by how much gear i have thrown at this thing, and still be let down by one lousy drive shaft after another. then the t-case went pop. so the weak link is behind the tranny... and the tranny's aren't known for being bullet proof.

looking through my parts pile, i think i might be able to get the 3 speed auto to feed the samurai t-case, but i will be needing a bucket to hold the case together. i refuse to spent 800 us for a billet case half.

if i don't re work the drive train, i will have to lower the ride height almost 8 inches. which means i will have to coil the front end too. gawd damnit.

have looked into a vw diesel, had the kit, cost nearly 1000 to get it here, and still not convinced it has more power then my 16v. i can roast tires through 1-2, and slips the clutch in 3rd in 2 hi. just ask anyone who saw me spinning donuts at the fire pit at postil. or climbing trees and land cruisers. my set up does work, but i dont really want to lower it, i love how it sits, it's a fuckin monster compaired to a regular samurai, or even most built ones. it clears 38 no prob. no body lift.

unless someone has a better idea for what to do...

what lift is in it now?
I have toy 410s if needed.

it's somewhere between 14-16 inches over a stock sammi.

i have ordered a mighty kong, gorrila grip mounts. and i am drafting up the front coil suspension for it. looks like i am keeping the 16v for now. looks like i will be lowering it to the slightly above stock height. it'll be interesting.

How bout gettin a kick trann/case combo? Shorter and you won't have that bad ange on your rear shaft.
