View Full Version : Skidoo'n and Seadoo'n May Long Weekend

We've been itchin to get out sledding one more time before summer, so pulled the hoods off and drove up until we found snow! Drove for about 15km off the blacktop before we couldn't go any further due to the snow left in the shady spots on the road. Even though we expected it, it was still a shock to the system to ride for about a 1/4 mile on snow that was too deep for the trucks, then hit a sunny spot and have to ride a 1/4 mile of dirt! That's spring riding for ya though! So, after several patches of dirt between snow, we came to the longest stretch of dirt/rocks/gravel which turned out to be close to a mile long! Packed the sliders with snow and away we go! Good thing there was a couple of spots of snow to stop, cool off the sleds and repack the sliders with snow! Eventually we made it to real snow and had a blast, not a hill we couldn't climb today! The only thing that did stop us were the creeks. Had to climb way up to the top of the cutblock a couple of times to find a spot still covered with snow to cross, but eventually we found a creek too big to get over. At least we got our dose of snow and sleddin, now it's time to put it away 'til next season.

So, we thought our day was over and it was only 12:30. Nope, head back to town, drop off the sleds and grab my buddies Seadoos and hit the river! Water was a chilly 13 degrees C, but that didn't stop us from taking an hour ride in shorts and t-shirt! I took it easy and didn't get wet, amazing how stable the new Seadoos are compared to the old ones. And with 215 supercharged horsepower, they pulled a hell of a lot harder then the sleds did earlier in the day! We thought we were crazy for playing in the river this early until we saw a boat towing around a couple of kids on a tube!

Spring sledding, can't be afraid of a little dirt riding 'til you hit the real snow!

Just around the corner from the dirt was 2' of snow!

Found my sled cabin that I built with another guy about 10 years ago. He decided on his own couple years ago to move it from Rialto Ck up to Ladybird where we saw it today.

Heard, then saw an avalanche off the "slides" today. Sounded like thunder at first, then we could see the debris come down the hill! Fortunately we were on the other side of the valley!

View looking down the cutblock we had come through.

The snow was set up pretty good, wheelie's were fun pulling all the way down the trail!

End of the trail for us, probably could have found a way around through the trees, but we decided to head back

For some reason my buddy decided he was going to pin his sled in reverse even though my machine was right behind his! Just a little scuff on the rear bumper! I laughed my ass off when he pinned it and went over the bars though! [15]

Dropped off the sleds and grabbed the Seadoos for the afternoon

Saw a couple families of Canada Geese, could just barely make out the babies in the water!

Went as far upstream on the Columbia River as we could go to the Hugh Keenleyside dam

Checking out our old log house in Robson. Nice red paint the new owners picked out for the front door. [35] Was a gorgeous cedar plank door.
