well i got a 4runner with a cracked engine block and a 1984 toyota pickup with a perfectly running engine. my question is what would it take to dump out the 3.0L and pop in the the 2.4l? any problems with the ecu and all that stuff?

easier to go to the 3.4.

How about we start with whats different between the two engines. And I dont mean the obvious.

Just scratching the surface...
They have different:
- Engine mount placements on the frame.
- The transmission bellhousing bolt patterns are different.
- The EFI computers are different.
- The wiring is different.
- The dash instrument cluster is different.
This isnt to say it cant be done...

If your looking to do a complete engine swap, and to put in a better engine. As mentioned above the 3.4L is your best choice. I just finished doing my 3.4L swap and honestly it very straight foward. Hence why I have a 3.0L for sale. :) If you go the 3.4L route and need guidance on the electrical I will be able to help ya out.
