I'm putting a 305 into my Jimmy with 400 type exhaust manifolds, as seen in this pic below: My question is: Do I really need to install the heat shields, they really get in the way when you need to take the engine out in the future, like when you unboilt the manifolds to pull the engine. I know the shield are to save your plug wires from getting cooked but how necessary are they?? My 305 will run cooler than the 400 did. They get in the way also if you need to pull an exhaust manifold too, The front heat shield bolt is between the block and motor mount and is really hard to get at when everything is installed. Anyone know what I mean or been there, done that??
