I am putting a 10 000 lb warn winch in my truck. The way it is set up will not work for my bumper.

When i put it in the engage/disengage lever hits the front plate of my bumper.

It seems to be in the wrong way or was put that way for a different application.

My question is can I take the cover off(its only about 8 allenkey bolts) and give it a 1/4 turn?

I dont want to notch the bumper cuz it sucks enough as it is.

Yes you can reposition the outer cover on those winches just be a little careful because those allen bolts hold that cover and the barrel under it on there are so needle bearings or any thing to fall out but that is the Planetary gear assembly there and if you take it right off you will have to line up the planetary gears to put it back together.

Can i just undo the bolts and spin it. Or do i have to pull it out and spin it?

I am pretty sure you can just pull the bolts and spin the cover it's been a while since I reindexed one of those things just like I said be a little careful and try to just pop the outer cover loose it will make it easier to line up the bolt holes again.
