my dad is thinking about getting a zuk samurai, he knows nothing about em, i know nothing about em, lots of info would be awesome, ex: best year, pros/cons, reliablitly, how strong are stock axles (strong enough for welding)/better to put toy running gear, yada yada yada.. any input would be mucho apreciated[cheers]

forgot one thing... gears, what are stock gears/different lower gear ratios you can throw in there

I don't know what the stock gearing is but i know with a 31" tire the stock gearing isn't very good. You can get gears from a standard/manual suzuki sidekick or tracker and they have 5.13's that work good.
SPOA is a cheap way to get 4.5"-6" i think of lift.
I don't know alot about them but, if i had one i wouldn't weld the diff if it is going to be a DD. I don't know how the shafts would like that.
If he is going to run any bigger then a 35" tire i would go yota axles.
