hey so i was looking at a 1991 edie bauer exploere. its got a 3" suspension and 3" body with 33's. warn hubs, electronic transfer case 290,000km on the engine with a motor and tranny rebuild at 200K, 4 speed auto tranny with B&M shift kit, dual aftermarket aux tranny coolers, electric fan, external filter
and B&M tranny temp gauge. it looks pretty cool and supposively the ttb in the front is supposed to be strong same as the 8.8. but everything i have read about them have been mixed reviews. some just say they are shit, hence the exploder bit, but some give them praise. can anyone tell me if this is worth it or what??? and any problems i would probably face with it. thanks a lot[cheers]

biggest problem you will face already sounds like its been taken care of. the a4ld trans is not the strongest. As for the front end they're not bad i'm running 36's on mine and havent had a break yet. i'm pretty nice to it though. almost gaurantee if the balljoints havent been done recently they will need to be done. Sounds like a good truck. the front axles and u joints are the same size as a d44 so with 33's you should be ok.

hmm, so it should be fine for a daily driver and occasional bush bashing mud boggin. i dont have a lot of time for wheelin right now anyways. how much lift do you have to run 36's thats what i was -lanning on doing but i guess i would need 4.56's?? and like 9" of lift?

i'v got 13" of lift to fit mine and they never rub. I now have bushwaker cut outs so there is lots of clearance. 9" and some fender work you'd be set. And yes i blew up 3 auto's because I havent changed my gearing yet. But i converted it t 5 speed and orderd some 4.88's. they will be in on sunday

electronic t case, and auto tranny are garbage other then that sounds good, every explorer at pick and pull has no tranny(hint hint autos are crap)

yeah but are they garbage due to wheeling and stuff or is it garbage all around daily driver and stuff. cause this will barely see dirt andmud besides once and a while, thats what ill have another truck for

i haven't blew mine (knock on wood) all i do is change the fluid/filter once a year and it's fine plus it has a good size cooler on it

My Mom had a 91 a few years ago, and it went through 4 tranny's in five years of daily driving. But unfortunatly, before we sold it, we found out that AAMCO hooked up the cooler the wrong way. Except for the tranny, I think Exploders are nice trucks.

i look at that truck before and i passed on it..too much money for what it was....what is he selling it for now???and im pretty sure its a 2 inch suspension lift well spacers or what ever it had.....thats as big as u can go and still get the wheels to sit straight......and no 35 will not fit unless u cut it up a bit....the only real down fall u will have is the tranny but there not too bad if u drive them right....and the auto tcase isnt too bad but a nice upgrade would be a manuel tcase...

yeppers thats the truck it was for sale on bc4x4 for awhile ....i found a way better deal...i unded up with a 94 limited with 250 k that was mint for 2700...and he wanted like 4g for it at one point......what is your zuki worth??
at the time i was looking at it the seats wer eripped up and it needed an alighnment cause the lift in the front...and it was starting to rust a bit it needed a few things but nuttin to big......the biggest thing is with the 355 and 33 your gas milage will suck and u will burn the tranny faster... i have 373 with 33 and my gas milage went from good to crap with the tires...is the stereo and sub still in the truck or did he pull that out now....it will for sure cruse down the highway at 120 and carrie the tools no prob....i have had ming for a bit and love it....its probley my favourite vechical that iv ever owned...and i have had lots...good luck...

03-29-2006, 10:36 PM
hmm yeah he still has the stereo and sub in it, i had an offer of 5 g for my zuki but that was from prince george and he wanted me to drive it there haha. i am really starting to have second thoughts about it now then. and i am kinda of wanting to get back into a toyota haha, theres an 83 on 35's yellow for 3000 obo. anyone wanna buy my zuki for 4300, has brand new crossover 32's and winch haha

so would this not be a good vehicle to invest in for like daily driver and weekend pig or is it just going to be a complete money pit?? also remember i dpnt beat on it too hard either, and when yopu say burn gas do you mean like 100$$$ a week???

bigorange440
03-29-2006, 11:11 PM
well i used to get about 350 k too a tank that was about 30-40 to fill now im lucky if i get 250...so its not great.i only use like 10-15 bucks a week but i live close to work..a buddy has a 97 with a 302 and its not much worse......but i realy like my truck for 4x4ing and daily driving....i dont beat the crap out of it but i do use it....a good thing to do would be a 5 speed conversion for it.. better fuel milage and way more reliable

kamloopsyota
03-29-2006, 11:28 PM
so in your opinion, since youve seen this one already, think its worth it??? i dont wanan end up geeting into soemthing thats gunna kick me in the crotch a few kms down the road you know waht i mean. but for mileage that was better then i thought, and for gears if i were to swap some in, what would be recommended for 33's??? i dont mnd buckin up the dollar to do that. thanks a lot man

MikeWild

go look at the door code, the d4s had 3.73's and limited slip. if you need gears there is 3.73's at pick n pull in kelowna

bigorange440
03-30-2006, 08:48 AM
456 or 488 would be the way to go....but u can find 410s used pretty easy got ming for 100 us front and rear that only had 10.000 k on them...but for like 500 u can get new ....i would make sure u pressure test the collant system those years are bad for cracked heads if u heat them up....i would just make sure u go over the ehole truck real well 300k is alot but they will take it no prob if they have been serviced right.....but if u think its good and everything checks out its not a bad price..its a nice looking truck....i never went throught the truck he could not give me a solid price and i ended up finding another truck.....

well i got it, made it home alright, need an alignment and probably balljoints other then that it seems fine. had a bad thunking noise going over bumps, turnes out the driver side front shock didnt have a top rubber bushing so that rode like ass till we got home. amazingly it didnt come with a cd player and he didnt know if it had speakers...even though in the pictures of it i got it had a cd player...... then drove it up here to slave lake no problem and probably sell it when i get home as of no need for the size of vehicle anymore.
