My engine ran good until it started knocking on Sunday. Is worth any $$ to anyone if I replace it with another engine. I know some people like to use parts of these to make a stroker motor.

I've run a 400 for years, never any heating problems. Why give up cubic inches and build a 383. Keep the 400 block and you get 406 with 030 over bore. Or ofset grind the crank, use small journal rods and have a small block 427.

[iagree] I ran a 406 in my cj with no cooling problems my 350 now has a harder time staying cool in the jeep ( I took the 406 out because I hydrauliced it and sent a connecting rod out the side of the block ). regrind the crank if you have spun a bearing or by a SCAT crank they are reasonable I run the SCAT cast STEEL one in my 383 was under $400 is good to 500 hp, and put some GOOD heads on it the stock 400 heads are some of the worst flowing heads chevy made just remember to drill the steam holes in the new heads if they don't have them. More cubes = more torque just what you want in a 4x4.

Keep the internels[there worth somthing, the block is junk]get a 350 for replacement, don"t know what you have now but any 70"S-80"s 350 would be a resonable replacement.[ AND A MUCH BETTER MOTOR].

IF YOU WANT CU. IN. BUY A BIG BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My only trouble with my 400 (bored .030 = 406) was my own fault swamping it and hydraulicing it and blowing a connecting rod isn't the fault of the 400 and I would build one again.

I'll take the block, if your just going to get rid of it. Trade you for a 350 block.

Took oil pan off, and #5 rod bearing had lots of slop. Took it apart. Crank journal is definetly not highly polished anymore. I guess doind one rod bearing would be senseless? What are your opinions. This my first time with a problem like this. I already bought a 305 replacement for $100, but someone told me to put in a used bearing or one new one. Sounds a little crazy but how long would it last? Con rod end could be hammered oval too right?

Fiuxing this may be quick and easy, but how long would it last? I don't want to be towed 40 k's down from Harrison Lake. Someone already offered me $200 for this 400.

Take the money. If you put new bearings in, you'll just wipe them out again in a couple of miles.

[iagree] take the money do the 305/350 and move on cause u will destroy those new bearings in a matter of minuts........[36]
