View Full Version : 400, bottom end knocking, what is it?

On Sunday, my engine started knocking after accelerationg thru a mud hole. We figured it is coming from the bottom end and is very noticable at 1000 rpm. Could it be a stuck lifter? If I took valve covers off, and started engine, could a person notice?

I could pull the oil pan off, where does anyone suggest for me to start. Rod bearings I can afford, another engine is saving for a few or several months, unless someone gives me one on credit, lol, or I win some $$ gambling.

sounds llike you turned a bearing on the crank start with the valve covers
look for a quick fix , i;m betting its the crank, did the same thing with a 351m
in my 79 ford last year in the mud holes [cheers]

It's usualy not worth puting bearings in an old engine. If its knocking, you first have to fix the problem that took out the bearings, or the new ones will pack it in, in short order. Got a 350 you can have for cheep.
