90 would be efi with a 50mm throttle body

need regular oil changes and a better air box for sure..

use a 4.0 ltr flywheel and clutch.
port and polish intake heads valves ect..
run 19lb injectors and a mild cam = approximate 235hp

not a powerhouse @ 160hp @ 225ftpd stock

but cheap on gas....

and mine dont tick......... 375.000.ooo km

I had an 86 with the 2.9, once the tickin started I was able to get another 10,000km befor a pushrod caved and the ticking wasnt even bad. Watch the head gaskets on the 2.9, the first few years for the 2.9 were bad for heads/gaskets.

I have a 90 2.9L cant complain doesnt tick but only has 170,000kms and it starts everytime I turn the key. the automatic trany is a pos thou, mines almost dead I have a mazda 5spd from a 4.0L etc sitting here for when I get the time to swap it.

Also they (2.9Ls) dont like to be overheated so take care of your cooling system!! or crack goes a head.

hey guys, ive never actually owned one but you always here bout it.. Apparently good motors my buddies have had them... seem like its a bit gutless off the line but descent torque, and a tick is deffinatley normal inthe 2.9
