View Full Version : Mt. Mackie Sledding

Couldn't get to Revy for the weekend, not that we could of found a hotel room anyways! So, a buddy and I played in the untracked fresh powder that Wednesday dumped. Couldn't believe the perfect weather, and not a single track all day! Can't say that about Revelstoke this weekend! Bet there wasn't a single bit of untracked powder there! Rode up Bugle Ck, attempted to get to the summit of Mt. Mackie (7200'), we came within about 200' (vertical) but the snow conditions just weren't set up enough to do the last bit. Was an awesome ride, but I've never been stuck this many times in one day! From the old logging road through the trees to the top is tight, so not much chance to keep any speed up or turn out when you do start to get stuck!

First cutblock, didn't play much here as I wanted to try to make the top while it was early.

View of Rialto Ck across the valley.

Our destination for the day. Mt. Mackie.

Slides coming off of Mt. Mackie. Had a challenge just getting this far. The old cutblock below is getting overgrown, and the snow wasn't set up like normal spring conditions. Made for lots of fun!

Into the trees here, this was an open section. At times the trees were just far enough apart the get the skiis between!

Bjorn came down the wrong line here, put a tree between the belly pan and ski!

So, I handed him a hatchet! It was too steep for the 2 of us to pull the sled backwards!

One of our many stucks attempting the line through the trees. The Summit digs deep trenches!

So close to the top! The green "bullet" is a repeater for mobile phones.

View of Red Mountain Ski hill near Rossland. The mountain on the left is Granite, Red chair is below and left, out of the picture.

A view of the Bombi (Salmo - Castlegar pass) riding area.

Bjorn just had to do one more stuck before heading down. He says the sled "hooked up" a little too well, and before he knew it, he was heading straight for this dead tree! Fortunately he managed to get it on its side so the skiis and track hit the tree instead of the hood!

Had an awesome day! As tired as I am right now, I'd rather do this type of challenging riding through the trees then climb straight up an open slope!

I'm with you on the trail riding. Open slopes are fun, but I like the adventures through the trees better.

Looks like awesome conditions out there, with nice sunshine!

Looks like you guys did about as much digging out of your mcahines as we did with the quads today! Looks like way too much fun. One day I will have to actually go sleding in some real deep snow!
