hey i have a 88 yj rolling chass and 85 cj7 258 6cyl. and a t177 tranny does anyone know what tcase will go to it so i can use it in the yj?

the yj NP231 off of an AX15 tranny will have the same spline count as your 4spd and the same NP round bolt pattern but I have never actually tried to fit them together. The 231 will slip on the tranny but I don't know about clearance for the frt output of the tcase to the tranny.

i think the t177 maybe wrong because i have a 5spd but dodge parts guy looked up my vin# and said it was a t177 or could it be a t5

if it is a 5 spd then yes it is a Borg Warner T5 the T176- T177 were 4 spds but all the prior info is still same all the cjs from 1980 to 1986 used the same input on the Dana 300 tcase no matter what tranny was in frt of it.

thanks i have the dana 300 but it to the pass. side so the 231 should fit and thats any 231?

no not any 231 it will have to be a 231 off of the AX15 5spd trans out of YJs and XJ Cherokees you need a 23 spline short input on the tcase, and like I said before I don't know for sure that they will fit together due to frt d shaft clearance but that 231 will have the same spline and bolt pattern as your tranny
