Did some diving around Quadra Island/Campbell River last weekend, thought I'd share a few pictures to show how colorful and full of life BC is beneath the waves..

A beautiful morning, just leaving quadra island on the dive boat to dive 'copper cliffs':

and in we go!

a king crab, amongst strawberry anemones (they literally cover the walls in some places):

a red irish lord:

common scuba diver: (that's me!) on a 'drift' dive in some serious current!

wow, cool

what did you use for the underwater pics? Did you get the kit for your camera or just get one of the disposble underwater cameras?

it's a friend up here's little underwater digital - I think it's a sony inside a good quality housing - takes some amazing pics, seriously.. and she says only $450 total to get into one of these.

I've been considering a housing for mine, but the only one they make right now is a BAG that you put your camera in, it has a screw on glass lens attached to the front of the bag, and looks quality and all, but taking $1000 worth of camera in a bag seems kinda crazy.

Ya, I know what you mean. I would be scared to do that as well if I had a real nice camera too.

For the amount of pic you'll probably take underwater even the cheapo disposable underwater film camera's you can get work pretty good. I used one when I did some snorkling over in Hawaii and got a few great shots.

I've gone on two trips with the sole purpose of seeing six gills, and haven't seen any yet! !

but yeah, I've seen Wolf Eels many a time... definately the highlight of a dive, you can feed them sea urchins and they just chew right through all the spines. Sea lions were coming in and out of the darkness on the last dive, pretty wicked looking giants.

and Port Hardy and the area around here is simply amazing - its the best diving I've done in the world for sure, and is probably why good ol' Jaques Cousteau rated it second in the world, next to the Red Sea.

Do you still dive ? We should go sometime out of Nanaimo or Campbell River.

230lt: Those pics up there are from 'copper cliffs' off quadra island.

Amazing Pics [36] ..... I've gone diving in Mexico several times but never @ home .....always wanted to [f] Do you have a dry suit or full body wet or ......?

mista fitz
02-23-2006, 07:21 PM
dry suit. I dove wet for a long time, but man... diving in a dry suit is the shit.. wear fleece clothes underneath, go for multiple dives/day with no problems... and dry gloves are so awesome. .

helmz: yo man - as soon as I get set up in Nanaimo, I'll be planning to get my jeep over, but it needs work bad... and even still will probably be a weekend machine only.

but yeah, we'll go wheelin' over here as soon as it's done.. and I will need your help FOR SURE.

thanks! !

left all your stuff at the front door ... . in surrey? :p

actually, my stuff got ripped off a couple years ago too, it was at my parent's place though, and their insurance covered it all - and I ended up with a lot of nice, new gear. heheh. for instance, my dry suit orginal was a piece of shit outta the buy and sell, for $150, but 'replacement value' for a drysuit is well over $1000 .... so you see how things worked out well.

lizard

I bought a drysuit(used) after I was certified, wetsuits suck ass in this water.

Dive & Sea Sports New Westminster (604) 524 1188

but seriously, check the buytand sell for fins, and I would get the mask and snorkel from canadian tire, (no joke, as long as it fits on your face when you press it firmly on, with no strap, its a good mask, and I wouldn't spend upwards of $100 at a dive shop on a mask, if you can get one that fits for like, $30)

you'll need boots and gloves too though, those are best bought new, at the store above... they've always been good to me.
