i have done about 10 trips to the coast with fords 99-04 and 2 trips with dodge 98-03 and the dodge was by far easier on fuel smoother quieter and all around better power>>>>>>>>[51]

Cummins, Cummins, Cummins...

Whatever...I like my PSD... its the one I could [b]afford to put in my driveway. [22] Still goes like a raped ape. [41]

FWIW, you need the tall axle ratio (3.54), longer running times, and highway stretches to realize the mileage figures everybody flaunts.

BTW: The Dodge isn't a real 4dr til '03, and still not a real crewcab. Dunno if you have kiddies - but extended-cab seating isn't proven to be safe for child seat mounting.

ya thats why i figurd go for the ford cause the crew cabs are pretty big,but today at work all the guys were telling me that if i go with a gas pot to go with a chevy, they all say that the chevs get about 23 mpg on the highway, has anybody heard of this kind of milege??

I've been in a buddies quad cab ford with 13 people in it. Wasn't all the comfy, but hey 13 fukkin people, fords got the most room by far, but the shittiest interior quality in my opinion.

Cummins and Powerstrokes only have a 4spd tranny, Dura has a 5. ( in the years u mention )

The dura has the most power but doesn't rev worth a shit, same with the cummins both redline around 3200, where the for 6.0L reds at 4200. Only problem is the fords tranny's blow up if you chip them and run em hard. Not sure how the dodge holds up dont know anyone with a chipped one. They have a mercedes tranny though.

I had a '96 Power Stroke, auto, only got 12 mpg on the hwy empty. A buddy has a '97 with the 5 speed & gets 13mpg.
Another friend had a '03 & cooked 2 trans before he got rid of it. Bought a super crew with the 5.4, says way better milage & maintance costs lower.

A couple of freinds have the '03 Chevs, they both are on their 3rd trans (auto) & out hunting late season try & start them after a night not being plugged in. They haven't said anything about milage.

My dad has a '04 Dodge dually CC, auto, no room in the back seat but exc mileage. Came back from PG this fall towing a 25' travel trailer, 2 quads on the deck & 2 large moose under the deck, 2/3 tank of fuel from PG to Kelowna. I burned 4 tanks in my 4Runner empty!

I just bought a 02 Superduty Crew cab with a 7.3 .
It gets between 12-13 mpgs as far as I can tell.
I also have a 91 Dodge 1 ton with the cummins and it gets 20 probably empty or loaded!

My dad has an 05 Dura, it's not anywhere near broken in, and he's gettin about 11-12 mpg towing a 27 ft 5th wheel.

I've heard it takes about 20,000miles to break in a diesel...? Anyone know if this is true???
