View Full Version : My project junk(lotsa pics)

02-15-2006, 11:35 PM
Just to throw it out, maybe for suggestions, or, when i'm asking for strange things people don't think i'm stupid:

I got myself an 80 jimmy, totally f'd body. After mucking around with it (literally) for a while I ended up ripping it apart, removing the tub and all the totally rusted to shit stuff, bought a pickup cab. I then chopped the frame to the spring mounts and am currently in the process of setting up cab mounts for the new cab, i'm sure you know, but blazer mounts are different in the rear of the cab - outside vs inside mounts. I also have to redo the front mounts as well. I'm going to box off the rear of the frame, I plan on doing two crossmembers that are triangled for strength (Y'know, for when i'm really..really stuck, some dude with a 454 doesn't bust my welds, ripping my junk in half..). I have new (to me) fenders, inners are painted with rattle-can rubberized undercoat, was planning on the same for the outers. I have 35's on it right now (from before the uhh..drunken ripping of my rustastic tub off..).

I'm selling my jeep to fund this project, which will prove to be some cool ass shiat - I'll have to get new springs, gears, eventually (after I roast the th350 off..) a new tranny/drive shafts.

Here's some pics of the project so far:

Feel free to make suggestions, or to laugh at my redneck ass.

02-16-2006, 08:20 AM
no laughing here ... woow looks like your gooing to have your hands full with this project best of luck to yah[cheers]

02-16-2006, 08:28 AM
done yet?... lets go wheelin yo

02-16-2006, 08:50 AM
"I'm going to box off the rear of the frame, I plan on doing two crossmembers that are triangled for strength "

Looks like a cool project, is it going to be streetable too, if so won't they bust ya for welding on your frame? I wanna do some on mine too but have been nervous about it. [cheers]

02-16-2006, 09:09 AM
hey dean he has the same dent in his hood that you got is he copying you?

02-16-2006, 10:19 AM

02-16-2006, 10:58 AM

02-16-2006, 01:12 PM
k, one off ythe endless list....

02-16-2006, 04:05 PM
Yeah dude, body damage is right - When I was trying to torque off the body mounts I only broke off two of the bolts, the others I had to actually tear the body off around them. Only one actually came off the way the manufacturer intended.

As for the frame welding, well, we'll see I suppose. I'll be sneaky about it, make it better than new.

02-16-2006, 04:27 PM
k, one off ythe endless list....
You ain't kidding endless list. My truckis the epitome of junk

02-25-2006, 10:24 PM

02-27-2006, 08:09 PM
It's going good, got my cab hangers bolted back up on sunday.

Gettin' er done, YO.

04-02-2006, 07:29 PM
My NEW, NEW Fenders - damn Chevy and their incompatible stuff..

04-02-2006, 09:03 PM
comin togeather good.......what the fenders are wrong or what???

04-04-2006, 12:23 AM
Yeah, my original new fenders were off of a 81+ body, little did I know the hood mechanism for the 80- cab was totally different. I got a new grille too - which is good, because my old one was pooched and ugly.

04-04-2006, 12:26 AM
OH, if you are wondering what the cruiser from the first pic looks like now:

04-04-2006, 12:48 PM
nice toyota ,looks good

04-04-2006, 11:31 PM
Yeah, it's my buddies. It wheels real nice like, yer s'posed to be saying "Nice Blazer, good to see work is happening!"

04-04-2006, 11:42 PM

04-05-2006, 12:10 AM
For sure dude. I pulled off my rad support today and associated entrails. It's time to start hooking shit up and get it running again.

Anyone know the part number or whatever to get a rag joint for the steering box on my unit?

04-05-2006, 12:12 AM
..Looks like my mounts have settled a bit - <mental note> "Tighten up front mounts"

New axles...

04-05-2006, 04:14 AM

So, if you know anyone who needs shit off a corp 10 front..

04-10-2006, 11:35 PM
Nice man, are you going to beat me by getting your shit on the road faster than I?? I just picked up a rebuildable/greasable joint to adjust my mounts some I can my suspension actually work.

04-10-2006, 11:41 PM
About time dude, Derek's been saying you should just buy those cheap ones from princess forever

04-13-2006, 01:23 AM
Jesus christ, I've been trying to get my damned shackle bolts out all friggin night. Goddamn rusty shit.

Only prob is im in langley !

04-13-2006, 01:58 PM
Yeah, I gots a torch, buddy took it to his house though, d'oh. I'll git em out, if I have to bust out the sabre saw and cut through the bushings then the bolt, they are comin' out.

04-14-2006, 02:12 AM
It's looking good DJ...where did you end up getting your olive drab?

04-14-2006, 12:51 PM
I broke down and bought a bunch of cans from CT, Krylon camo system - only the olive drab ones.

04-14-2006, 07:05 PM

04-14-2006, 07:06 PM
Hey, the D44 driveshaft coupler is different than the corp 10, is there a ujoint or something out there that makes the conversion easy?

04-16-2006, 11:52 PM
I got my gas pedal today, as well as my good wiring harness. I also got what appears to be an ECU or timing computer or whatever.

04-20-2006, 07:27 PM
I've been putting in wiring and pedals and shit over the last couple days. I got my ubolts today, so I'm headed out there right now to hang the d44. Expect pics later tonight.

04-20-2006, 09:46 PM

04-21-2006, 09:40 AM
looking good there man.

04-22-2006, 01:36 PM
Bought some 38's at Tires Plus in Mission today, slightly loved, on rims. Cheap, they have lots of used stuff there for you boys who need stuff.

04-24-2006, 10:16 PM
38's, Fuck yeah. I JUST painted one of the rims, they were just TOO ugly to bear...Cheap as ass on hastings though:

04-27-2006, 11:04 PM
Lookin good

nice meats.....

04-28-2006, 01:47 AM
good luck man sounds like you got quite the job on your hands lots of time and money going in to that heres a question are you strengnthing thr frame i think you should box it in so no twisting happens

04-28-2006, 07:21 PM
Twisting is good for flex. I will be stiffening the rear a bit though

05-07-2006, 05:07 PM
Yes, i'm workin on it still.

05-07-2006, 05:08 PM
FUCK is it nice to work on a truck with no fenders!

And yes, that heater hose does go directly from the block to the rad, hehe. No core yet, it's still on the old cab.

05-12-2006, 08:00 PM
I changed the links to the pics in this thread to my server on the fat pipe, so they should be nice and fast loading now.

05-12-2006, 08:44 PM
I like how you chevy guys can jsut throw away your body and get a new one... I don't have that option.

Anyways, looks like a fun little project, eh? How well do you expect the D44 to do with 38s?

05-12-2006, 09:19 PM
Lets see it on those 38's already[36] [36] [36]

05-13-2006, 02:15 AM
Hehe, yeah, it's nice. The D44 will do JUST fine with 38s. The 44 is a fucking awesome axle, there are just too many people who talk about the 60 and how awesome it is yady yady, and maybe if you are running 44s that's kinda what you need...but with 38s the 44 is just fine. If I blow something up i'll just get chromoly axle shafts and it's just as tough as a 60...without the ujoints, but whatever.

..I'm waiting on ubolts right at the moment, and a fucking starter. I'll be getting the starter tomorrow, and possibly the top plates for the 14 bolt ubolts.

05-13-2006, 06:16 PM
Starter is in. Top plates not here, but we'll see if a buddy of mine has some...

05-14-2006, 06:27 PM
Alright already, I gots the ubolts. Check this shit out:

05-14-2006, 09:39 PM

Looks really good man

05-14-2006, 11:30 PM
looks better already.

05-15-2006, 12:10 AM
Yeah, it's nice to have the tires on there....To look at anyway, they make working on it a little more difficult however, heheh. working UNDER it, well, that's another story now!

05-15-2006, 05:16 PM
has potential! but a lot of work.

05-15-2006, 07:13 PM
Yeah, it's a lot of work, but how else do you really know your truck? You don't know about things until you actually have to work on em, this way, i've worked on the whole truck and when it breaks on the trail I know how to fix it.

At least when I hear a 'ping' or 'bang' I can go <wince> "There goes my <insert some shit I halfassed here>"

05-16-2006, 12:53 PM
sweet.. lets go wheelin!

05-16-2006, 06:01 PM
Hell yeeeah brotha'

06-21-2006, 11:53 PM
I ripped my rear axle off finally today - one of my springs is broken.

06-28-2006, 01:10 PM
git r dun lets go wheelin

12-12-2006, 06:14 PM
OH SNAP, Thought I gave up, didn'tcha?

12-12-2006, 06:59 PM
looks awesome dude..you sure seem to be makin some progress...and damn that is a short, short box!

12-12-2006, 07:20 PM
Yeah man, looks nice. Looks like I need a box, or make up an exo or something for the rear. I gotta figure something out for a fuel tank though

12-12-2006, 07:25 PM
Yeah man, looks nice. Looks like I need a box, or make up an exo or something for the rear. I gotta figure something out for a fuel tank though

just put those old front fenders on backwards as box sides and throw a tailgate on there haha or it would look pretty sick with a nice double roll bar behind the cab with an old kegger for a fuel tank[36]

12-12-2006, 07:28 PM
That's fucking funny man.

I was actually thinking about doing a yota style tube rear end - which would look cool and be functional.

12-12-2006, 07:48 PM
Looks like my server is on the fritz at the moment. It's out in Edmonton, so it might have environmental issues.
Here are those new three pics on my local server (slower) for temporary hosting:

Looks like it's back up.

12-25-2006, 02:23 AM
Nice work man! Git-r-done :)

an exo cage would be nice n a race fuel cell, one of these years im planin on exo cage but if i do im gona make rock sliders as well n tie it all together with tubes up to winch bumper (just a pipe dream at the moment tho)

12-25-2006, 01:02 PM
Pipe Dream, hehe. That isn't that crazy of a desire - rock sliders and exo. Get a tube bender and a source for tube.. Make rock sliders out of heavy plate...done like dinner.

12-29-2006, 03:41 PM
tough to tell from this pic but i did what ur doin. K5 frame, cut to the hangers, moved my axle back 2", boxed it all, added welded cross members, hitch, changed stock shock mounts-to a new cross member(put in 36" adj. rancho's), built a box around my tank and caged it with 2x2 tube-tied into the frame. Went right to 1tons. Anyways nice to see another decked and cut k5. Sweet work too.[cheers]

12-29-2006, 03:47 PM
i'll put up more pics soon, here's the cut up shit.

12-29-2006, 04:30 PM
got some better pics together, how's ur progress anyways? mine got put on the back burner for the holidays  gotta quit breaking it or find a new wife:mad0215:

12-29-2006, 05:11 PM
cool man.... i just couldnt bring myself too putin a roof over my head....

truckstuff has a nice blaz/up

12-29-2006, 05:21 PM
yah this isnt the first box either i smashd the first one up eagle n got a dent on the new one up there too, soon enough, one or 2 dents at a time!

12-29-2006, 07:17 PM
Yeah, I gotta get mine going soon, we'll be movin and it has to be able to move too, hah.

The issue i'm dealing with now is brake lines and driveshafts. I have a 3/4 ton rear end and an np208. I have the driveshaft (from Heavy), but the yoke/splines going into the 208 are for the 1/2 ton ujoint. I'm not sure what I should do, any tips?

12-29-2006, 07:17 PM
i'll take a fully convert k5 any day, but it's my d.d and it rains a "little" round here. Plus i drive my kid to school all year. I took of the doors all summer and got funny looks rollin' with the little guy without doors....i made him wear a life jacket for padding ;)

12-29-2006, 08:44 PM
ur half ton 1310 d shaft won't wrk with ur 1350 3/4ton yoke on the 14 bolt, try a wrecker (JKL) for a 1350 3/4 ton shaft prob 120.00. u'll prob need to shorten it. the out puts are all the same on 208 -205's so that shouldn't be a prob. sup with ur brake lines? i went with skyjacker long travel lines (steel braided)

12-29-2006, 08:46 PM
oh ya you could also go with a 1310-1350 combo joint, prob cost more in the long run, maybe weaker.

12-29-2006, 10:43 PM
Yeah, I have the right shaft already, it's a 3/4 ton shaft - well, see the pics - the slipyoke in the tcase currently is a small ujoint, and the one on the ground is from the new shaft - which is the right size.

As for brake lines, I need to have longer ones. Where do I get them? I've heard of using rubber extensions - what's the deal with those? etc.

12-29-2006, 11:08 PM
what's wrong with the shaft pictured on the ground? If it's the ujoint size u like use it. I don't know anything about rubber extensions for brakes. I could give you the part number for the seperlift line i got for my rear. its super long, steel braided, and works for any chev. its the rear center line/into the junction. i ran stock replacement hard line on the diff.

12-29-2006, 11:12 PM
here's a pic. u can just see the yellow super lift line in the center. excuse the mud on everything...:D

12-29-2006, 11:22 PM
the problem is the yoke - the one on the ground is male, not splined, the one in the truck is a slip yoke, splined. I can't just swap one to the other because the ujoint size is different

12-29-2006, 11:49 PM

the one on the ground is 1 peice of a 2 peice shaft and it is the rear half of it
you can either spend some doe and get a conversion ujoint for your other shaft or shoot me some doe and get it fixed right since i do have the right peices :confused0006: [cheers]

12-30-2006, 12:04 AM
If your only problem is that the one that is correct at one end with the slip, but incorrect yoke at the other, change yoke on the rear or go to lordco and get a combo ujoint. Easiest to take in both joints and they can figure it out for you.

12-30-2006, 09:04 PM
so my main question here is its gunna be awsome when its done but is it based on mud boggin or trail or kinda for everything cause so far it looks like a mud truck

12-30-2006, 11:58 PM
Mud is fun, but only so much. I like explorin' - much easier on the truck anyway.

Although, the main reason I own a Blazer in the first place was seeing the big broncos and Blazers down on the flats and their 44s. I guess basically I want something that will be able to do whatever I want to do with it fairly well - Be it mud or trails.

12-31-2006, 02:30 AM
so my main question here is its gunna be awsome when its done but is it based on mud boggin or trail or kinda for everything cause so far it looks like a mud truck

Have you removed the nuts first???

01-02-2007, 07:57 PM
Yes. Yes I have.

FU Toolbag
01-02-2007, 10:32 PM
usually just a few light taps and out they pop. Have you tried a good penetrating lube? Have you tried puting a socket over and whacking the cast down?

I've never had any problems with those, but there's always a first time.

02-05-2007, 09:48 AM
Redid brake lines in the rear - relocated the rear hanger and got new lines for the axle.
Got my steering arm off and new one on - I need to replace one of the studs, lordco claims that they can't get them anymore, anyone know if this is accurate?

Ended up getting DIFFERENT front brake lines than suggested - banjo bolt didn't fit in the lines I got originally. Unfortunately, one of my front lines broke when I was pulling the hose off - need to re-flare the end and will probably end up relocating both sides to the underside of the frame.

My buddy (Bushpilot) extended my column auto shifter linkage for me to be more accepting of my body lift - worked perfectly.

Rear crossmember (new end of frame) is mocked up, gonna drill holes and throw bolts in, then weld.

Will post pics later, I haven't updated this thread very often due to lack of stunning visual new things, but y'know.

Recent work-

02-08-2007, 11:48 PM
Broke my fucking bleeders off of my calipers so I just bought new ones.

02-12-2007, 10:54 AM
So? where's my positive reinforcement?

"Looks good guy, git er dun!"

"Chevy's suck! Finish it so we can go wheeling!"

02-12-2007, 12:28 PM
OK, I will play !!!!!!!!!

[wtf] get that shit done already........... after all it is a chevy:fighting0080:

02-12-2007, 01:41 PM
Broke my fucking bleeders off of my calipers so I just bought new ones.

I've done that a couple times. Pisses me right off.

Welding a nut too them ain't exactly easy then either...

Yeah, the new calipers were 33 bucks a peice. I got em 'cause even If I DO get the broken bits out, I still have to replace the broken bits...AND I don't even know if the calipers work at ALL.

02-12-2007, 09:19 PM
wow dude your puttin tons of work into that and its comin along nice when ya thinkin its gonna be done?

02-13-2007, 01:44 AM
Unsure - I got the calipers swapped today and brakes bled.. fucking thing uses a LOT of brake fluid, good lord.

The bastard u-joint I got is the wrong one, not even close it was. f'n hell.

dat brake hose dont look so gooder all coiled up

02-14-2007, 10:37 AM
that's an optical illusion, it just goes up and back, I see the line, it does twist slightly, about 1/4 turn only though.

But thanks for pointing it out - maybe i'll have a closer look

02-14-2007, 01:53 PM
is it done yet?

Good build, where'd you get your ubolts from?

02-14-2007, 08:15 PM
My buddy made me up my front ones, and when I needed my rears I got em made at abby spring - 50 bucks and while I waited (about ten minutes)

02-27-2007, 11:26 PM
Picked up some Flowmaster delta 40s today (from the other site)

Put my other fender on..gonna throw the hood on pretty soon, probably after I get all the fender bolts in. Probably fire it up soon too.

02-27-2007, 11:32 PM
cool dude lookin good...

02-27-2007, 11:47 PM
whats goin on, are ya done yet, whats takin ya so long

02-27-2007, 11:53 PM
work, life, etc etc. I rented a shop last week - waiting to move in the blaze.

02-28-2007, 12:11 AM
work, life, etc etc.

ya i know what ya mean, it seems like it's taking me for ever to get the conversion done on my toyota and it's only been like five months

02-28-2007, 12:15 AM
making some serious strides now - having a shop is going to make everything easier and faster - lighting at night, no wind/rain etc. Access to all of our tools and equipment at any time (my buddy is in on the shop with me, currently most of his shit is spread over a few houses).

Hell, even a flat concrete floor is luxury compared to gravel.

03-13-2007, 08:26 AM
any updates? im following the build

03-13-2007, 10:51 AM
Yeah, Picked up an NP465/205, going to put that in later though. Got my fenders and hood on, got ready to fire it up and found that one of my cylinders is rusted up good - not sure if the motor is going to have to come out yet or not.

03-13-2007, 11:25 AM
do you want this fuel cell i still got it sitting in the back of my truck

03-13-2007, 04:03 PM
I'm interested yeah, sorry about that guy, i've been working on so much shit lately.

What were the dimensions again?

03-13-2007, 04:15 PM

im on the hunt for a 465/205 combo aswell, they are hard to find but dam near bulletproof. saw your ad for a wanted 350

lookin good

04-22-2007, 04:40 PM
Cool dude if its possible I would consider drillin out the driveshaft yolks and usin u-bolts instead of straps for the u-joints

04-22-2007, 07:36 PM
Yeah, straps are factory for the 14b axle. I will probably end up doing that.

Redneck tranny jack

05-07-2007, 08:27 AM
nicceee idea, better than a pump jack.Whats left to be done aside from the tranny?

05-07-2007, 01:42 PM
not a whole lot actually! I have to get the motor hooked up and running, I got an inline fuel pump (newer motor means no mechanical pump) So I guess the list goes like so:
- Finish Tranny shit - I didn't get it 100% in, still gotta line it up a bit more to get it in place
- Bolt up bell housing
- locate holes for new crossmember location and drill (then bolt up crossmember)
- Mount new clutch linkage
- Extend clutch pedal rod to allow for body lift
- Hook up fuel/fuel pump
- get motor running (new motor, old truck = issues i'm sure)
- get a new rear shaft (BigB has one for me...)
- re-assemble front clip
- wheel around the yard
- take crazy flex pictures
- do exhaust (I got dual flowies for 'er)
After that, it's basically clean it up - Pull my shitty bench seat out, fix the floor where it's rotted, find seats that are good, doors (punk in drublic has some doors for me that I hope will be sufficient)..Paint up the cab..

Then I get to pull out my new chop saw and build up a deck for the rear end!

05-07-2007, 06:00 PM
ya man bit by bit it will get done just a matter of time. You have slow days and you got fast productive days but in the end it will get done if you keep going at er'

05-07-2007, 09:30 PM
hunny that is not even close to the same condition

05-08-2007, 02:22 PM
What a project... just read the whole thing. Good stuff man, keep at it [36]

05-08-2007, 02:35 PM
Yeah, I wish I was working on it right now.. I need to take a couple weeks off work and get it done hehe

07-03-2007, 01:19 AM
Tranny is IN bitches!
AND i've moved. and this, and that. Yeah yeah. Fuck y'all.

07-03-2007, 01:53 AM
nice fuckin build!

07-03-2007, 02:03 AM
Thanks man, day by day.

07-03-2007, 10:30 PM
is it done yeeet? By the time you've got this truck built, i might even have my motor timed.

07-04-2007, 12:09 AM
BURN. Yeah, well, excuse A excuse B.

Tranny is in, I bought hardware today to bolt up the cross member. I even have the right drill bit and an appropriate drill to do it with, hoowhaa!
