what do people think of the xj? weak ,capable or to much work to build.
what is the perfect lift ,tire combo and drivetrain mods?
what do people that own cherokee's break most often?
how can you eliminate these problems so they don't happen as often
myself have not broken anything yet except a spacer block but that is because my front axle is offset from a bent track bar setup
getting a adjustable bar from bds, I think it will fix it!!

XJ's are pretty capable, only thing that I find wrong with them is the lack of a frame (unibody) so the tend to twist pretty easy (At least mine does). I have a 5.5" lift in mine 31" BFG Mud's, No sway bars[redneck], LSD in the rear, open in the front and a very heavy right foot[36]. I too did not break anything for ages now it seems that every time I use it something breaks. So I think that I am going to rebuild it (Exploder 8.8 in the rear & a Dana 44 in the front, 411 gears & lockers) and keep it just for camping and shit like that. I think that I am going to buy something else maybe a CJ or even a Suzuki (sorry Kev) for trail running and stuff like that (this would make my wife very happy as the XJ is her daily driver) Something that I can put on a trailer and haul to where ever. As for your questions on the ultimate XJ build up try contacting Camorkee (Heavy Metal Motorsports) I know that he built one with a custum 10" lift kit and ran it on 36" Swampers[36].

It all depends on how much money you want to spend on it.

Myself I want to run 33's with a long arm 6" + lift, 4/1 t case locked f+r, skid plating etc. It's also our d/d so we have the 31's with no lift right now. (trimed fenders)
I would also like to see moondogs xj before you dismantle it.

Not much to see, look in the trip reports mine is the red XJ with the fibc sticker on the windshield. It's all stock running gear at the moment (dana30 front Chrysler 8.25 lsd in the rear). It will still be the wifes daily driver when it's finished (as it is now) it will just mean that I can be more adventerous when it comes to wheelin it. It should also sloooooooow me down so I should not (hopefully) break too much. Shoot camorkee a pm for more info on his XJ build. Bushwacker with the 6" lift and fender trimming you could easily run 35" BFG Muds under your XJ.

xj's are cheap to buy and easy to mod. only problem is they usually have crappy axles, and putting in beef ones take a lot of work, I guess it all depends what kinda wheeling you do! For mud I would go full size chevy!! But trails an xj will do or a 4 runner( but they are so god damn $$$) I like my xj, but I'm getting my dad's 77 k5 blazer! I like chevy's more!!!!
