What involed with swapping in a GM singke wire alt? Obviously I just need to hook up the one wire to the batt, but what do I do with all the extra connectors from my old alt?

thinking about doing it on my rx7 which is carbed, so there's pretty minimal electronic computer crap. The stock alt has a plug with 2 or 3 wires going to it along with the batt connection

Do they come in any different sizes or mounting configurations etc? amperage?

The stock alt on my rx7 is only 40 or 50 amps, which just doesn't cut it at night when I need lights, wipers, heater etc and I don't even have a radio or cd player yet... So I figured this might be a cheap easy way to upgrade.

[cheers]

nevermind, I think I've found some better options using the CS130 style alt.

All you have to do is just hook up the single wire then.......

Your done ,... don't need to hook up the other wires

Ive been running a single wire for years and never had a problem[36][36][36][36]

From the reading I was doing last night, it sounds like the cs130 is a more reliable alt thatn the old signle wires. Plus it puts out 105amps and still puts out some good amps at idle unlike most high output alts. I looked at the cs144 which is even more powerfull, but I think its too big and doubt the larger rotational mass would handle 8k+ rpms on a regular basis

But for the Toy I think I'll probably go with the cs144 -- 140amps[36]

single wire has a self exciting regulator, if it has a single wire and a plug in, then the plug in wires are the source of when the alt is told to charge. its a easy conversion between the 2

I was just wondering about keeping the idiot lights working etc, but I don't think you can do that with the single wire. CS130 looks like a better more reliable option anyways.
