View Full Version : Solid axle swap?

Does anyone have some advise about doing a solid axle swap on a 98 chevy full size? I want to find a ford Dana 60 kingpin axle because the transfercase is a drivers side output as is a ford but need to know about the steering, spring mounts, any trussing, or anything that i might run into. I have only seen a kit from off road unlimited that is really expensive, so are there any other companies or would it be better to fab one myself?

Do it yourself did mine and way happier with it than that kit you looked at, thought the same thing that it was overpriced. On mine went with a high steer setup and fabbed up the hangers for the leafsprings. Hope that helps[cheers]

Thanks for the info and sites. If anyone has any info about crossover steering for a d44 front axle that would be good, i heard you had to machine the knuckle tops to put the steering arm on. A buddy of mine is thinking of doing the same thing to his half ton. Im still going with a d60, but have also been thinking mog lately. There supposed to be stronger than a d70.

I have a 78 hp 60 the one you would need to do your swap if you have any questions on measurents just ask also you will be looking for one for along time also you should think about the gear ratio in a mog axle a drivability on the road I'm not sure what their gear ratio is.
