Why does fuel guage go below empty when it gets on empty. It goes from 1/8 to below empty?
Sticky fuel float?
Is there a cheap and easy & painless fix?

What year/model is this? Rubicon or XJ(your signature)?

Does the guage go smoothly to "E" then drop off suddenly?

There should be a "continuity" table for the fuel sender for you to follow to check. Disconnect the fuel pump/sender from tank, check continuity between sender and ground and compare to table and what your guage says.

On older units, the printed circuit on the sending unit wears out making it have open (high resistance) spots that send your guage out to lunch! A newer Jeep shouldn't have this problem, so might want to check for bulletins from Chrysler.

yes it goes smoothly to empty then next thing you know it's below "e"

Where is this table? In the service manual? I'm assuming you check the continuity with a voltmeter.
If the circuit board is worn can you solder it to fix it?
Thank you

Probably have to check with a factory service (shop) manual for specs. If it's worn, soldering won't help! Needs to be replaced.

And you'll need an Ohm (resistance) meter (Multimeter) to check it. An analog ohm meter is best, you can see instantly if there is an open spot.
