I posted this under the original events thread but thought I should put it here as well.

Did ya need to ask

Kev had to replace the front drive shaft u-joints even before doing the trail.
On the way back up the trail he blew the front axle u-joints on the passender side. Trail fix on a steep, steep, steep hill is no fun.
By the way did I say it was a STEEP hill.
And then a short way up the trail BANG pass side u-joint grenaded again... can you say 3 wheel drive.

But fear not....it was not the only carnage on the trail run. I think everyone experienced some "special moments" on the way back up.

What I had hoped to be a nice little excursion turned out to be the trip from hell.

It took HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS to make it back up the trail.
Even with just having to winch almost ALL the way it would have taken long enough but the stops for the trail fixes made it even more fun as the last EXTRA STEEP GOOEY CHEWED UP ONLY MOVE WITH A WINCH part was not made until the wee hours of the morning.

With my fabulous driving skills and the fact that there was only ONE line to take with a full size vehicle and that being the last in line the trail was now the consistency of extra thick peanut butter AND those damn little stumps cut off just high enough to catch on your axles (remember only one line available to a full size) AND overheating winches AND dying batteries (not just me )I was able to finally reach the top of the trail at 5:30 AM.
Plenty of time to get to work by 7 AM ..... not.

If not for the tireless efforts of all the spotters and winch cable runners it would have taken much longer for all of us.

In my case I gotta say that if it wasn't for Squishy, Big Ern, Bruce and Redline I would still be there stuck on that last stump or the last hill climb.
A HUGE thanks to your all night efforts.

Must also give big thanks to Trina and company for the pizza and water delivery to the stuck Bronco crew after everyone else had made it back to camp and we were still fighting the trail.

Thanks to everyone and would I do it again

Well...... not until all the body damage has been repaired anyway

Would you

Glad you made it up, hopefully you weren't too late for work. Your truck did an awesome job despite several setbacks. Its nice to see that a fullsize can run the tight, twisty, overgrown, stump strewen, gooey, slimy, extreme vertical, got winch??? trails

Hey don't forget to check the wiring by the fusable link that was smoking this morning.[cheers]

Hey Jim.... glad you made it up and out and thank god for such an understanding boss huh?

I was more than happy to bring the pizza/water/beer down to you guys, felt like i needed to do something to help, i'm just freakin shocked i made it down without droppin a single thing

funny signature line here

Ya the boss is a great guy.
He goes places in his 2wd "offroad van" that most people wouldn't take a stock 4X4 and has had similar experiences.
Good of him to understand but not something I will repeat anytime soon.

It's a good thing I didn't get up the hill an hour or so earlier or I would have gone to work.....it would not have been a pretty sight.
Out in the bushes I felt fairly normal but once I got into the busy city I realize I was fucked right up and needed to be unconcious.:D

The pizza and water was great. It helped take the frustration out of being stuck on that stump.

how long were on that stump after i stumbled up to the top?

07-18-2005, 09:58 PM
I got left the bo0ttom at around 4 and crawled to the top without a flashlite -not very bright -I know !

I set my tent up (with all kinds of sqwacking from the peanut gallery) for making some noise and having a lantern on !

And then got to go to sleep with the wonderful sounds of an 8274 doin its job ! I woke up a few times listening to them getting closer but Im sure by the time they were at the top I was in complete deep sleep mode !

Theres nothing like the sound of an 8274 in the mornin ! ------Said in my best apocolypse Now robert duval voice !

I ran your jeep for quite a while when I was airing up my tires also.
It made a lot more noise than the winches.:D
