.....or care why its called a jeep?
The first quarter-ton reconnaissance cars delivered to the army had painted on their sides the letters "G.P"-which stood for "general purpose." "G.P." when said quickly became "jeep." The utterance of a character in the "popeye" comic strip of Elzie Crisler Segar, "Eugene the Jeep"-who confines himself to saying, " jeep,jeep,jeep"-may have helped popularize the word.

Read it in a book..
so the first "jeep" was acually a car..
that explains things[f]

the moniker "G.P" was actually a Ford engineering term. "G" for government contract vehicle, and "P" for 80 inch wheelbase reconaissance car. It did not stand for "general purpose. The Ford version was later changed to "GPW" (Government, 80 inch wheelbase, willys) because they got a contract to build under the willys pattern.

So the first jeep was actually a car? and ford made it.
actually if you want to get technical the first jeeps were made in 1940 by three separate companies all gunning for the military contracts. Bantam, Willys, and Ford.

I don't panic when I get lost...
