Had some fun today along the Pend Orielle (pronounced "Pond-or-ray" River near the Canada/USA border. The weather held out all day until on the way back to the trucks when it poured hard!!
Cool waterfall along the main road!

Jroc and midway90xj, how old are you?

I grew up in Trail, turning 40 this year.
Maybe we know each other?

I used to go exploring the Pend Oreille all the time. I remember as a kid we'd go out and watch them building the dam. That was waaaay too cool.

hey Kootenaycat, somewhere out there, I think it's in that area, there is a big old yellow boom truck - a kenworth or something. Last time I saw it was probably 15 - 20 years ago. it had ICBC claim writings on the windshield and the boom was still up - held in place by miles of cable. have you ever come across it?

LOL!! I just got the warning from the image host I was using that I exceeded 1500MB since Saturday!! I was using them because it was faster then resizing all the photos to under 90KB to upload to FIBC. Also, the quality and size was better, but I'll plug away and resize for all you to see!

Well, then, you've got some more exploring to do. :) I'm pretty sure it is on the south side of the pend oreille, in the cresent formed by the river as it comes up into canada and then joins the columbia.
The boom may have come down (or been knocked down- freakin vandals) by now, but I doubt anyone would have taken it out.

happy hunting

Those pics brought back more memories..

first off, Kootenaycat, sorry about the boom truck info...it was in that area but just found out it was pulled out a few years ago

My mom (yeah, I know, somebody's OTHER ride) used to work as an ambulance driver for the min of highways. Anyway, one of their jobs was putting that bridge in (the one you were smoking up - I'll be sure to show her the pics) and I used to go to work with her during the summers. I'd fish and play in the woods all day. I was like 10 years old.

That waterfall freezes up really nice in the winter and you can go ice climbing on it.

Thanks for the memories Kootenaycat.

Jroc, I'm 40 and left Trail about 20 years ago. you would have been 3. Just got into sledding this year - LOL - bought a Skidoo 500 on a Thursday - temp was -35. picked it up on the following Sunday - temp was -25 and lots of snow on the ground at home. Rode it home, took the wife and kids for a ride.
Started RAINING on Monday, rained for 3 days and washed all the snow away. hasn't snowed here since then. :(

Oh well, there's always next year! and now I have a Jeep for summertime fun.
