The other day wheelin i was reversing on a steep incline withlots of stress on the front drivetrain when all of a sudden i hear WHAM!! Something is screwed i was wondering if someone could help me diagnose the problem and no im pretty sure it aint an axle shaft. What happens is it sounds like gears are skipping but there has to be a significant amount of load on the front end for example i punch the gas in four low going in reverse and i hear whack whack like something is skipping I can do it going forwards aswell just a bit harder to load up front end. When driving normally in 4x4 i hear nothing how can i find out what is busted without tearing my truck apart?

Buy a new one.

Sounds like you tore the teeth off the ring and pinion.

Either birf or spider gears if you have em.

Hey guys its not a birfield. As for the spidergears i dont think its them either because they dont make any noise even at higher speeds. Is there a chain in the sammy t-case that could be slipping on the sprocket?

it could be a hub

Well it was a good guess but it is not a hub. So that leaves t-case or somthing in front diff how could i figure out which.

it's a gear drive case. unlikely to be skipping. busted the cap off a u-joint?

have you taken anything apart? cuz it really sounds like a birf or hub coupler

When you drive in a straight line does it make the noise? And when you turn it kinda makes a bucking sound like its skipping teeth on a gear? I had those sypmtoms when I broke my spider gears.
