View Full Version : TBI vs carb VS efi

was wondering how is a TBI system compared to the EFI over a carb. on my 351 M i start to get screwed as all would expect, once i get to a decent angle.

will the TBI be a good upgrade, or will it be a marginal benefit. is EFI the real only way to still have performance on the angles?

the carb > tbi is a fairly simple conversion, no? couple sensors, fuel pump, and some wiring? or do i underestimate this.

lastly, if the TBI is a huge thing to take on, are there any upgrades to an edelbrock 600cfm carb to smoothen it out on the angles?

propane works well on angles but you won't have as much power and it would probably cost just as much to convert to propane as it would to fuel injection

as for putting it on your engine (EFI) are you talking about an aftermarket kit?

i think it is well worth the investment

i have been tossing the idea around in my head of a v8 streched zuki, with the running gear in the truck right now, since alot will be swapped for bigger and better, and will have it sitting around.

but since it would be a rock crawler trail rig, not mud, i need something other then carb, be it a swap to a EFI or TBI, and which will be the better, easier, cheaper (i know thats an oxymoron)to swap in.

TBI is EFI i think you mean Multi-Port EFI

multi port sprays the fuel straight at the intake valve and has a "dry" intake manifold i belive you get better throttle response from this it requires a fuel pump of 40psi minimum

you thinkin of swappin the 351?

if you intend on doin up a complete engine then i'd toss MPI on that sucka
but if it's for the engine you have TBI should be just fine and less work than MPI

by TBI, i am meaning throttle body injection, which is like a carb, but fuel injected. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7963572618&category=33558

efi, being a new intake with fuel rails, injectors, and all the such, like here.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7962656804&category=33615

or am i way off base here and should just keep mouth shut before i make a bigger fool of myself ? :D[f][speach][freak]

efi ford all the way and IT is easy to work on, because you don't have too work on it if done right. crimsen you know my bronco and that 460efi is the best for whatever you throw at it.[49]

ya, it is a nice bronco. was the 460 already set with efi or did you swap it in ?

the bronco was a 351w 4 barrel in the beginning and i put a 91 460 efi in and made a wiring harness and ordered a computer in from d&m to work with it. but i guess i like wiring so. there is a way to do it with a 68up 429 or 460 but it's a bit of money, but if you want to play you got to pay[1e]. by the way bronco is getting a facelift for winter camp

Definitely MFI.... *Mechanical* fuel injection ;)

I'd shove a 6.9/7.3 IDI in there. Run at angles, buckets of low-end torque, and no electronics - just an ignition wire to open the fuel solenoid.

I'm through with gasoline completely. [^]
