View Full Version : welded front end? whos done it?
guy figures i should do it and just run one hub till i need both. think its a good idea?

No. It'll pull towards the wheel with the hub locked. Weld the rear and leave the front alone, if you're too cheap (like me) to put a locker in.

I welded mine about 3 years ago and only had to replace 3 axle shafts in that time and only because i couln't stop after the u-joint let go and wiped the ears off the shaft. It also helps that i have x-over steering and hydro assist too.
A buddy of mine had a lock-rite in his front axle (both d44's) and broke more axles than i ever did and he even had molly's in his.

i welded the front end in my old ford, it had a dana 44 and it was nothing but problems, i broke axles blew a hub, i couldnt get any run time out of it or rely on it, cause it would just brake

my buddys ford is welded up and he constantly breaks axels!
i guess an air locker is the only way to go for the front eh?
put in a limited slip, I have a electric detroit in the front and I blow shafts every few trips. It's hard to find d44 inner shafts now.
lock your rear first!!!
