So me not being a chev guy i don't have a clue what works/what doesnt work.

I have a 85 s15 2wd(yes 2wd[16]) and am looking to either swap a 4.3 vortec or 350 in it for towing my ranger when i go out of the lowermainland. Will the 4.3 vortec pull my ranger on a trailr, or do i have to go up to the 350 for towing??? Truck wont be used more than 10-20 times a year so it will be a permit princess. the truck needs a teranny as well, what will be my best optins on motor/trans for towing, i want to keep this a cheap junkyard build so i can afford beer[cheers]

Thanks in advance

a 4.3 blazer pulled my 5000lbs ski boat but a 350 would be better it all depends on how much money you want to spend

Check out prices on 4.3 and small blocks. I'd guess you can buy a decent running small block cheaper then the V-6. The V-8 is more hassle with motor mounts and keeping it cool, but way more fun!!! As for the trans, make sure you have a heavy duty cooler (seperate from rad).

i have pulled heavy loads with 2.8 motor before.. 5 speed manual.. warning.. up hills sucks!!!!

i think it would be cheaper to get 350 with turbo 400 or something and hook it up on propane and have huge tank in the back... works perfect and keep it simple

I'd be more worryed bout the brakes on that POS than the power.

its pretty gutless, no compression.

I fired it up yesterday without running it in over a year drove it out to the wack for aircare and failed but not by much, a tuneup would have passed it. Managed to bring the pos up to 140 on the freeway and it still gets the one tire fire going real gooderer

These guy's have done it all, anything to do with a S-10 they should know it.

I'd go 350, suposably for the more ponies it gives you over the 4.3, the gas millage is still the same. Plus a 350 you can pick up real cheap too.

I'm going to be doing my 350 swap as soon as i have the extra cash.... we'll see when that is :p

350 for sure, probably pick up a rusty old car or truck for cheap and switch everything over. [redneck]

I'm tired.
