im starting to look around to figure out what motor i will want to run so that I can start moving in the right direction. Right now I have a stock 1.3 that has had the head rebuilt 16 months ago but i think the the bottom end is coming undone (no dout from 7000 RPM+ mud holes) would it even be worth my while to rebuild the bottom end a bore it .30 over or somthing like that with a cam. I have heard people are using 2.0l engines, (what r they from Grand Vitara & What year?) nodout this is the most costly way to go or should i get a 1.6 8V,16V. Any info will be helpful including prices, horsepower, Rpm Powerband, ect.

i got a 16v, pulls hard after 3g's, before that it's not too bad, still more then a 1.3, and after 3g's it's just hair back till 6, redline at 6.5

the 2L has got more power, and is a ton more expensive, and since they're from newer veichles, and fewer made so far, they want a mint at a wrecker.

i wanna try a 2.7 alum. v6 suzuki engine, but they are impossible to find

1600 16 valve with cam is what i have. A friend is running a vw 1.8 gas and has just that much more pull. Both an easy swap. To much butcher work for a 22re and i have only seen 1 or 2 nice installs of the 2L. Use something that fits and if you want to go fast my 1600 will do 130 on the hway and for a sami that is more than plenty.

I had a 97 1600 16v in my 87 sammy it flew i only had the nerves to get it to 150 but it was still pulling. I used the 2wd Sidekick tranny and a really short intermediate shaft. The wiring is fairly time consuming and there were alot of sensors considering it was OBD 2 so i used most of the Sidekick harness. After all was said and done it cost about $3000 but well worth it.

there is a kit out there to swap a ford 2.8/2.9/4.0L V6 into a sammi

2.8L=115hp

2.9L=130hp

4.0L=195hp

all these engines share tonnes of parts

justanother choice to be aware of

if it were me i'd toss a 4.3L chev into it and do some wheelies

trying to get where i want to be

Build up a Pontiac 455! All you need to put it in is a welder and a cutting torch! Build your own torque monster and kiss your driveline goodbye. Twisting your truck into a pretzel is a bonus.

would the ford swap be a real bitch (does the t case lineup to the axles) would you have to hack the floor to make room. does any one know what it would be like to do and what pricerange would it be for a 2.9 or 2.8

too much fucking work.

the t-case will not take it. so you'd have to change that, but you can't use a ford t-case, unless you get a ford axle set.

get a 1.6 16v, consertavtive 100 hp, everyone makes adapters, the harness is a lil price to get hacked down, but well worth it.

OR get a 4age/agze/agtze mr2/carolla tranny, to sam t-case, dunno the hp#'s but they go like snot.

larry, you were saying that a 351 with full ford running gear will fit into a zuki, correct? is that the M, W or C 351, or will any of them work? :)

i've seen a 400 in a zuk, it will fit, any of the blocks will fit in, the c? is a wider block and may have header issues, im not 100% on that.. i know one is wider.

any realistic engine will fit, but i'd say to keep it small block for weight distribution, the rad may even have to be put in the back, it's all a matter of fit and finish.

i know for a fact a SB chev fits in just fine if you make your own mounts, i don't see why a sb ford wouldn't. oh, and i have seen 302's stuffed in.

i'm runninig a 1.6 8v out of a 92 tracker 2wd. i used tranny and motor picked up tracker for 600 after selling parts i didn't need made about 5oo and paying 250 for the harness to be made .the truck was of the road for about 2 weeks .after misc. parts did all work myself i'd say the swap cost me under 500 and it goes like hell with 29" tires but you need to buy the doner truck no matter what swap because all the little things add up and the doner supplies all that stick with tracker or sidekick swap they match the sammy the best and be prepared to do lots of mods and put hours in . also you'll save money using a 2wd and shortining shaft that way no adapter plate and the transfer case stays. hope this helps. '

when in doubt hammer on it , if it breaks it was no good to begin with .
