anyone running a teralow 4:1 kit? I've got a dana20 t-case, and a TH150-3speed standard tranny. I'm probably pulling my t-case due to a bad leak, and wonder if I should do some mods while its on the bench.

experiences? problems? hows the install, and where did you get the kit for a good price. [f]

you don't have a 300 ????

Sure is fun crawling around with it. The only problem with lockers and the low range it wonít stop till itís over on itís side. You have to know when to push the chicken clutch before itís too late.

thanks bruce, I was just on the phone with him and thought I'd update the post:

mike was more than happy to help, gave me my choices, and his suggestion. . .put in a 300 with a true 4:1... the 20 case can't be reduced as much..I've got 3.54 gears in the pumpkins, and a th150 3-spd std. -I think the #'s he said were that with the 20 case I'd get about 31:1 and by going to the 300, I could get 56.6:1 --- that'd be more the ticket I think.

that, and what good are the low gears without a locker in the rear at least, right?

at any rate, thanks mike!! I needed to talk to someone like yourself to get headed in the right direction!

well the 4:1 kit will be anywhere from 800-1000 .... the kit for my 20 is closer to a 1000, the kit for the 300 is closer to 800 ... and I think I've got a line on a 300 case (thx mike) .. so that makes it an easier choice.

why would the t18 or np435 be any cheaper? <-- I'm not being cheeky, i just don't know! ! thanks kyle.

If you put that 4:1 you wont need anymore low. I have the Np435 and itís way low but not needed most of the time

hey, thanks again man...

you're saying I should just swap the tranny then?

tera lo 3.15 kit for dana 20 $985.00 teralow dana300 $815.00 plus $60.00 in beer for My transfer case .Now what tranny to run could and will be an issue here!T150 to dana 300 adapter will cost some money as well as a dana 300 to what have you . T176 will be a good swap as well 4.0 ist gear as apposed to 2.99 ist in T150 . Plus that tranny is pretty stout when it is with the right gearing and or driver [jeeper can attest to that]All i have offered you Sean is what i would do with what i HAVE DONE in the past . Hope this helps a bit ![cheers]

Go with the 300 and 4-1 there sean -youd maintain the drivability you like with your three speed but get a decent low range !

Youd be twice as slow as you are now with one simple mod !

the T176 has

3.52
2.27
1.46
1.00
rev 3.52

so with 4to 1 gears you would still only get49.4 2 one reduction

whilst if you were to look for a factory T18A and dana 300 you could have 58.61 to 1 reduction and still at a later date get 4to1 gears if you feel you need them (89.49 with 4to1)

or if you were to find a np435 (common and it bolts up to your t150 bellhousing) and a stock dana300 you would have
61.95 or 94.58 with the 4to1 kit(I am sure mike can find you the adaptors) but i think the adaptors are pricey also, (kevins is an np435 so i guess he must have the adapter dont know if he got it that way or not?)
http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_433.htm
http://www.pirate4x4.com/productreviews/scrambler/

no matter what tranny you get i would say the dana 300 is the way to go . you have 4to1 gear sets shaft upgrades and of course twinstick, not to mention if you ever want to put in a high pinion ford front axle you can do a dana 300 flip kit.

it all food for thought i guess.

I agree with the 4to1 being one simple mod except his transmission
does not accept the dana 300 [j] so he needs a new tranny anyway.
If he could get a dana 300 and almost any manual transmission it came offered with, it would be an improvement in gearing.
