I was wondering why I was falling through the floor[freak]

The guy I bought the Jeep from just fiberglassed right over the rust. Getting a new tub this fall but for now it's over at Blazinbc house and were putting a new floor in it.

I'll post pictures as the work progresses

anything can be fixed with a chainsaw a hammer some ratchet straps and duct tape.

Honky
01-31-2005, 08:25 AM
My choices for the CJ5 are fiberglass or aluminum. The Aluminum is 30% stronger then steel but there are a bunch of down sides.

- They donít bend they crack and I hear itís harder to repair/weld
- Aluminum and metal can not touch each other or there will be electrolysis
- A lot more expensive to paint aluminum

Fiberglass tub

-The biggest down side is when rolled the window frame base cracks and is next to impossible to repair. The solution is to reinforce with metal.

The best way to go is Metal but canít find metal tubs for CJ5ís anymore.

[9]Iíll leave that to the Zuki boys. It would be a shame to cover up a CJ5 jeep body. The Zuki are not much to look at so it makes sense to throw metal over them.

Holy crap thats bad rust!!

As for replacements, glass is easy to repair, alum can be welded easy enough if you know the right person, and im sure we have them on the board. And why paint alum? Just buy a couple of buffing wheels and some polishing compound. BLING BLING!![7]

why not just repair what youve got? is it just the floors that are rusty? you can buy new replacement floorboards for just about any vehicle, just cut out the old rust, and have someone weld the new one in?

Thanks for the offer barracuda on helping with kev's jeep but I think I while have it done buy the end of the week.I've got the tubing and angle iron all cut out and in place and hopefully by tonight I will have the new floor pans all cut and moulded so tomorrow I can spend the day welding everything in place. Then the seat back in and do some rewiring and it will be all done for the spudspudspudspudspud trip.. :D

It's what CJ5 are bad for and one of the main reason you don't see a lot of them.

One of the main reason's I wheel a CJ5 is that they are not common and is the only Jeep I would own.

The other 4x4ís I would build are an old Land Cruiser or a 1977 Ford Bronco. These three trucks have the most style and character and are not your common see everyday truck.
