Just found out the early 98 F150 4.2L engine has an engineering flaw that makes the engine blow premature. Nice! [16] Maybe woulda bought a V8 if I had known. I would like to install a tachometer to keep an eye on how hard I work her. Any ideas on cost or cool ideas for how to mount it? I installed my own stereo [8)] Any info greatly appreciated :D

its easy. one wire to coil i think it is, one to ground, and one to a switched power on. as for mounting, couple of screws and it can go w/e u want :)

Ford had a recall on those motors. Yours might have already been replaced you might want to check it out. Oil pressure is what you want to be more concerned about not a tach.

If your lookig for a tach try Walmart they are the least expensive and they have a wiring diagram in the box[36][cheers]

I'd Agree with you but then we would Both be wrong

Sucks to have your engine BLOW PREMATURE. Toddler must have built it.[15]

I'm looking for the same style tach, but I want one with different color options. Like pink, purple and red [15][15][15]

I haven't even begun to think about the engine [16] Its hit 100,000k and sounds good to me Idunno whats the best way to really baby it?

I think ford had a recall on the entire truck.

IF YOU HOLD THAT EXPRESSION LONG ENOUGH IT WILL BE PERMANENT

so far itz is the only one to realise that you would spend a loooonnnnggg time looking for the distributer on that engine.

found it yet?

how bout now?

right-there isnt one!

pull the instrument panel, look for the tan wire with a yellow stripe-this is the tach trigger.[freak]

by the way,the engine problem to which you referr is just on the 97 model(first year of production)and it is with a coolant passage that can corrode to join it with an oil passage.how hard you run the motor wont make any difference, having a good anticorrosive coolant mix will make more sense.

you mention that it is "early" 98,so there is a possibility that the engine is a 97 carryover, but like matt said,it was probably already changed under the recall.[36]

i dont need people to get me,i just need people to get out of my way
