for some reason when im driving on the highway my ftuck will start to slow down for no reason it almost feels like it drops a cylinder or two, but if i drop the tranny into 3rd gear when im doing about 100km it seams to bobble a couple of times and then it is good to go for a little whille then it will do it all over again.

while all of this is going on my oil pressure drops and slowly increases when im in 3rd.

any ideas/suggestions ?

put a brick on the gas, put it in drive or first, then let it go off a bridge.

Im assuming you have the 2.9l? I changed the oil pump in my old ranger... pretty easy but you need to jack up the motor and take off dist. cap.

the oil pressure is probably dropping because the rpm's are dropping.sounds more like a fuel or ignition problem.the 2.9 is known for low oil pressure at idle, and a minor electrical problem can cause the engine to do what you are describing.

i dont need people to get me,i just need people to get out of my way

i'd start by checking the iac and tps.these could lead to a drop in idle speed and rough acceleration off idle.there are many other possibilities but these are where i would start.

Get used to it. The 2.9Ls have a problem with low oil pressure, BUT they are like a SBC in the fact that they run forever with low oil pressure. The oil pressure in my 2.9L is always all over the place, you just stop caring eventually. When your lifters start getting really noisey then I'd worry, but most of the tapping you hear is probably the fuel injectors. They are the noisiest SOBs I've come across so far in a MPI engine.

The biggest issue is that the top end gets the brunt of the low oil pressure problem. I know that if I run my engine down the highway at 4000 rpm for a while then come to a stop my lifters tap like crazy for a bit then quieten down. Don't worry unless it sounds majorly fatal. Cheers

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i finally figured it out.... .... well actually my mechanics instructor at school figured it out.
when the engine was getting really hot it was detinating in the cylinder too soon which is caused by TIMING, so i checked the timing and it was 10 degrees advanced. so in short if any one else has this prob. check your timing first.

the timing for the 2.9L is supposed to be 10 degrees mine was at 20 degrees
