Went atving near Salmo on Sunday and explored a new mine I had noticed last time up there in the summer along with revisiting some older mines and poked around an old ore mill. Saw a nice size black bear, but it was running away from me when I came around the corner, so didn't get a pic of that!

We disturbed several of these guys in all the mines we went into! They were busy building homes for the winter.

Old scale used to weigh the crushed ore, now used to weigh the dope in the trucks from the many grow ops in the area!

This loader was used to fill the ore carts and was sitting beside them. This is the first one I've ever seen.

Typical of many Ford owners, when it dies, they just push it into the trees to rot!!! I'm surprised I didn't see more of them!!

There were lots of tunnels and raises branching off inside this mine. We eventually came to a huge room where they dug out a shit load of ore. It was around 100' wide by 50' across and about 70' tall!

I walked into this mine last year with a guy who had worked the mine about 25 years ago. We went in over 1500'.

I wasn't too happy with the quality of the timbers shoring the ceiling, but it's been like this for several years! I didn't go back in this year mind you!

On the other side of the quads is a vertical drop of around 75-100'!

I'm not sure on the story with this huge trench, it went up the mountain for a long ways. You can see 2 adits in the middle, so I assume there must have been a huge vein to dig it to the surface

There was no worry of this shitter ever filling up as they built it on one of the vertical shafts about 1000' inside the HB mine! Don't drop your wallet down this toilet!

There are still a few buckets hanging from this tramline connecting 2 mines. Up until this year, we used to have to drive directly under it to avoid a deadfall, made me feel a little uneasy as it's hanging by one hook!

Bruce, I have only started exploring the mines around here in the past couple of years, and no I haven't gotten bored of going to any of the numerous places! I really enjoy showing these places to people who have never seen them (which is why I post the pics!), so I would ride any of these places every weekend! Besides, there are so many different rides to do in this area, I often only get around to doing some of them once a year! This last ride is only 20 minutes from my house and I could ride there every weekend for a month and see something different every ride. Add my photo album to your favourites as I always post pics of different rides in there.

And there's always an open invite to anyone who wants to do some exploring in the Kootenays!

Redneck-Justice and Boyzen, I had my stock full size Chevy to all the mines in the above pics up Sheep Ck last year, but you have to NOT care about your paint, as the alders are really thick on one of the trails! I had lots of new pinstriping and lost my antenna from that day! The only mines in my photo album that I can think of that are Atv accessible only are the ones up the Beaton Arm southeast of Revelstoke. The reasons I use my quad for exploring are ,most of my friends ride quads, the cost to run an atv all day is a small percentage of what my truck costs, and I can cover the same ground a lot quicker and when I do find a narrow trail, I can check those out too.

Jeepnut, the manufacture of the quad box I have is Tamarack Hunting Enterprise LTD, phone # in Canada is 780 980 2331. Fax 780 980 2348.
Their US site
http://www.tamarackatv.com/
The Canadian site in Alberta
http://www.quadaccessories.com/

I bought mine from the local Honda/Yamaha dealer and I think if you check the web site or contact them, they can tell you where the nearest dealer is. They make the strongest quad box that I have seen out there, most of the others are pretty flimsy. I paid $150 in 1997 for mine, and they have gone up to over $250 last time I checked, but still worth it compared to others. It even has enough room in the lid for a set of 5 1/4" speakers and I mounted a cheap Ford deck inside the box. Around here we ride at a high enough elevation I can get lots of good stations out of Spokane Washington.

I looked for the price tag for Tammie the tamerack girl !!!!!!!

Couldnt see any pricing info on her !!!!!

Im sure that the introductery price is just a pitance compared to what shed cost in the long run !
