Went up to Trout Lake area August 21/22 to do some quadding. Found cases of 72 year old ketchup in one mine located at 7600'. Opened a bottle and it still smelled like new! One of the guys actually had the nerve to taste it and he said it was still fine!

Mt McKinnon which is around 9000' at top

The mine entrance was almost completely covered in snow, we had to do some shoveling before going in. Unfortunately there was no air movement, so we only went in about 50' to where the cases of ketchup were.

Teddy Glacier. At the time of discovery of the mine in early 1900's, the glacier was just above the entrance.

Another mine we saw near the bottom of the valley. It was worked again in the 80's or 90's.

It rained so hard Saturday night/Sunday morning that this creek was a little too deep to cross. Last year we crossed it no problem and saw lots of old mining equipment at the top.

Hmmm Ebay, never even thought about that 'til now! The 2 guys I went with brought back a case each (around 24 bottles/case) and I just grabbed 3 bottles. Most of the time I like to leave things where I find them so everyone can enjoy seeing them there, but I figured with the amount that is still there, and the difficulty getting to them, a few bottles missing would be alright!

HW, that would be cool if you put the pics on a front page writeup. The new camera is turning out to be a worthwhile investment.

The area we were at is South-East of Revelstoke, up the Fish/Incomappleau River. The ketchup is in a mine located just below Mt McKinnon. It was originally a horse pack trail and is still just wide enough for a quad. One of the guys almost tipped his Honda off one part of the off-camber trail and it would have been down almost 300'!

Big time! All 3 quads were seriously lacking power by time we were at the top. I shut my Kodiak off about 300' below the top to take some pics and it didn't want to start, then it sputtered and barely made it up the last climb! The elevation effects it as well as the heat from the steady steep climb causes vapour lock. I am looking forward to the time all the manufactuers finally bring EFI into the picture.

This is my second summer to this area, and next year I am going to set aside a full week to ride/camp up there, so when it gets closer I will post to let anyone know.

The only that sucks is having to work for a living otherwise I'd be out riding every day!

Most of the mines we found either were too unstable or didn't have any air movement so we only ventured in a short ways. I have been in a few that had good air movement and walked in over a 1000'. The Ottawa mine near Slocan has been explored by friends of mine to a horizontal depth of over 2200'!

You guys are gonna have tpo start packing some portable AIR with ya ----Youve sent so many pics in of unreal mines that youve found over the last few years -sounds like you need to start packing equipment to start exploring deeper into them ------------LOTS OF PICS PLEASE for those less fortunate that cant be there with ya !!!!!!

Can you get a small 4x4 (Toy, heep etc) into any of these places?

It would be a cool road trip to do one summer, and to have some one who really knows the area leading would be awesome[8D]

I think most of those are stictly Quad finds as most the roads leading to them are pretty much gone. thats why there still in good shape an u can still find an see interesting things.

Kootneycat, u should get a small safety/backup scuba tank for some air. there really portable

Halo, yah you can get a bike to the glacier and mine, 2 guys on bikes came up when we were there. I wouldn't recommend an inexperienced bike rider trying it, one creek crossing has a big hole at one side, then a steep shot out of the creek, and the climb at the top is steep and fairly loose. And the mile long stretch of thick alders wouldn't be fun either!

Big Ern, both of the trails I went on that trip were barely wide enough for a quad, and some swithbacks and washouts so sharp that anything longer then a quad would have trouble getting around them. Like Lizard said, it's these reasons that the equipment is still up there!

Lizard, the portable air is a good idea. I would like to find a miners air tester to see oxygen levels as well as CO, CO2, etc. For now, we just don't venture too far in if there isn't a good draft.

I definitely would like to meet up with you guys for a camping/atv trip in the future. I just don't know if my liver can handle it from what I've seen/heard of your overnighters!
