View Full Version : Night run to Wilson Lake pics!!!!

Night runs are always a fun slow drive and this time was no different. It took us 6 hours to drive a 2 hour trail but hey the fun is in the journey not the destination! When we arrived it was getting light out so with good intention of cooking up a late night/early morning snack I went to bed.

The next morning we were waiting for the second group with Dan, Rich, and James to arrive when Natasha showed up after walking 4km up hill with her baby on her back to tell us that Dan blew up his drive shaft. We thought no problem we would winch him to a place that he could turn around and we would all head back to the lake. Turns out his front axles were not turning so without his drive shaft he was dead on the trail where he sat.

I had welding rods in the Jeep for the last year and to my surprise they were still in great shape. We have only heard about welding with batteries and a couple of jumper cables and it works really well.... well enough to get out of the bush. Rich cut off of a pieces of his bumper to use as a sleeve and James manned the welder. Dam if it looked stronger then stock when we were done.

All was well after the drive shaft was install but without the front working it took a two winches front and back and the aid of a snatch block to get Dan back on the trail where he was able to turn around.

It was a very interesting day!!

Night runs rock!!:

check out the pics I posted of harrison and when you see the one of the wood stove, just imagine what it would look loke if someone took a swan dive and landed head first on it. thats pretty much what happened.

That wasnt the worst part of it all ,,, I think we spent more time trying to get that truck back to an area where he could turnaround !Not only a busted driveshaft but something screwed up in the auto front hubs !It sounded like they were engaging but still had NO DRIVE from the front end ! So imagine trying to back that truck up on a loose sidehill with a welded rear and a very steep dropoff on the side !!!!!!! Took a lot of sweat and a lot of winching (two winches ) to keep him from #1 going over the edge #2 getting his back end to stable ground !!

James had better welds with two batteries -no goggles --then I can do with a stick at home (no comments Barracuda -lol)

A great weekend all told -Lots of fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I still cna tfigure out how it took us six hours to get up there !!!!!!!!(we must have been having fun )

07-12-2004, 10:55 PM
sweet pic and i vce only seen people weld with battery in mags [36]

I have already picked up some rod from work...
Got a spare driveshaft to now....

The front is working now..
problem was that with out movment the stupid auto hubs will not engage...Alot of good that is EH!!!!!

I do not want to spend another $%#% dime on that front end
it is money towards my SAS

Me and my buddy Evan caught about 20 rainbows between the two of us, but they were all too small to keep (8-10 inches). We did keep one though that we hook through the head real bad and boy was it tasty. Can't beat a rainbow from a nice alpine lake[36] That water was amazingly clear -- I bet we could see 50+ feet into the water. Mike said it was about 100 ft in the middle (he had a fish/depth finder).

Oh, and Bruce, I think the 6 hours it took to get there from the Sasquatch had something to do with all the "safety" meetings :D Because it took mee less than 2 1/2 hours to get back to Langley on the way home[8D]
