View Full Version : AIRCARE

So have had a wonderful week with aircare,NOT

I went thru aircare last week and failed BADLY, because they have a new test where 1992 or newer vehicles must do a gradual speed test upto 92Km/hr. Well the only way to get my Jeep upto that speed is to tromp on the pedal which of course kills my catalytic converter, so my emmisions were thru the roof. So after many many phone calls (6 different aircare managers and 4 ICBC managers ) basically I spent the whole day on the fn phone and work charged me a holiday day.
I get told that if I bring my Jeep in to their "aircare mechanic", they will wave aircare for this year.

So like an idiot I agree and get my temp pass and insure. So along comes yesterday and they take my wheels for the whole day and come back with a 3 page list of why it failed aircare. Wrong gears, not enough tourqe, running way to rich at there stupid 92Km and a dead catalytic converter due to working to hard with the gears I have(no biggy on the verter warranty is replacing).
There recommendation is to turn it back to stock(YA RIGHT) or put in gears that will work with my lift and tires(4inch lift with 35s), because I must pass aircare now that they have inspected the vehicle. Crap I wanted to change the gears anyway BUT on my own sweet time when money was available now I gotta take a loan out for this BS.

So where would a guy get 4:11s at a decent $ and is there any $ in selling my old ones I need to get a licensed mechanic to do it or my warranty is hooped.
HELP

P.S.[33]AIRCARE

i actually passed aircare with flying colours, couldn't figure it out, mind you my Jeep is pretty stock, but i run the hell out of her. the only thing i had to do was replace my stupid gas cap cause they said it was leaking. funny shit, i replace it, it passes. my gas mileage sucks so i put the old one back on and how about that, better mileage. Why not try running some 28inch tires when you go through that way the engine wont be out of the power band !

Is that a dealer cat, most of the aftermarket cats are shit right outa the box.Put a good cat in it borrow some smaller wheels and tires, pass air care, which is good for 2 years for 92 and up.Then remove the good cat and save it for the next run in with air care.

get "terrirory Z" insurance...

just ask for it, they shouldnt need to ask you ANY questions...

just means you dont use your vehicle strictly in BC, and YOU DONT HAVE TO AIRCARE

I just run half high octane and half methalhyrate in 1/8 of a tank and I blow aircare away.

The money pit rolls again.

Ya what he said. We used to do that all the time with our GMC Safari. Put in Mowhawks premium gas along with a liter or two of methyl hydrate, then make sure your heep is good and warm -- take 'er for a good rip on the freeway in a gear or two lower than normal and same goes for driving to aircare -- if there's a big line-up turn around and go home, b/c you want your cat to be real good and hot when you go through so its working its best. Keep it Idling high in the line-up if you have to wait for a minute or two also.

A fresh oil change, and new air filter help a lot too.

Or you could keep it simple a buy a toy [11] I take mine straight there without really even warming up (regular gas, old oil, no methyl hyrdrate, etc) and it passes with a zero in every field :D

Territory Z is a good way out but if you get into an accident in lower mainland they may not cover you. We used to do that a few years back and didn't have any problems but now ICBC will ask questions as to how many days it's been around in your driveway/work etc... and if you get busted - no coverage. Territory Z is to be used primarily out of the lower mainland so if you use it for work you are screwed !!!
